Job Summary

As a student enrolled in a culinary program , they will complete a variety of projects under a mentor at the facility and at the school. Cooks different types of food following department recipes, ensuring safety, taste, and cost management while adjusting production levels to meet demand. Perform duties in at least one of the following disciplines: salad cook, bakery cook, or line cook.

Essential Functions

  • All team members are expected to be knowledgeable and compliant with Prisma Health's purpose: Inspire health. Serve with compassion. Be the difference.
  • Works 1-2 positions out of: Salad Cook, Vegetable Cook, Bake Cook, Meat Cook
  • Prepares food for Patient Services, Cafeteria, Atrium, and special events following detailed recipes.
  • Follows food safety guidelines, including dating, rotating, and preventing cross-contamination.
  • Maintains cleanliness standards of the department.
  • Supports Patient Services, Cafeteria, and Atrium by delivering food and serving meals as needed.
  • Produces adequate quantity of food for Patient Services, Cafeteria, and Atrium based on daily instructions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

  • This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education - Attending Pellissippi St. or another culinary program or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience - One (1) year of professional cooking

Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses

  • ServSafe (or other food protection Food Handling Certificate) - Preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Sanitary food handling skills.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong time management skills must be demonstrated upon hire.
  • Ability to follow recipes, work within given production time frames, manage own time and independently work towards constantly improving quality standards.
  • Food preparation and food safety in a commercial setting. Preferred.
  • Knowledge of therapeutic diets. Preferred
