Role:
Assists with the collection of Delinquent Loans and Negative Shares. Also assists Compliance in review of possible fraud on accounts as reported by members or as possibly observed through daily activity. Daily responsibilities include doing research, reviewing, maintaining, updating and analyzing memberships and membership accounts. Participates in an inclusive team environment and communicates regularly with the AVP/Asset Protection Manager regarding department operations offering suggestions to enhance member service and increase efficiencies to meet the performance goals.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:














  • Treats all members and staff, in a friendly, professional and courteous manner.







  • Daily review of delinquent loan accounts, contacting members for payment, taking payment from member account(s) as funds are available, notifying members of possible repossession, sending files out to attorneys for collection and to repo agents for repossession. Assists with activities related to loss mitigation to include loan extension, loan modifications and foreclosures.







  • Process incoming mail including Bankruptcy Notices.







  • Process Loan/Negative Share payments.







  • Completes and/or updates ChexSystems regarding members negative account balances.







  • Performs necessary account file maintenance, makes corrections, and posts payments to members' accounts.
  • Records notes on account maintenance performed and notifies member in writing via email or regular mail.







  • Assist AP manager with reviewing accounts and granting Privilege Pay to members who previously had this feature revoked.







  • Maintains excellent rapport with MAFCU's legal counsel, providing accounts for collection and update of activity as needed.







  • Reconciles and Posts monthly payments made by members to outside legal collections firm.







  • Represent MAFCU in legal proceedings as necessary.







  • Scans documents and correspondence, as needed, into Nautilus.







  • Manage Bankruptcy Filings. Log bankruptcy notices in Collection Log. Notify legal counsel of any changes to bankruptcy filing.







  • Manage and update the Collection Log.







  • Assist members with providing proper insurance documents for Vehicle and Home Equity loans. Process requests through Collateral Protection Insurer's (CPI) website. Review and upload insurance documentation provided by staff and members to CPI website for CPI tracking.







  • Act as MAFCU liaison to and assist members with processing Debt Protection and GAP insurance claims. Upload documentation for Debt Protection and GAP claims to insurer website. Post GAP and Debt Protection insurance payments to loans when received.







  • Cross-sells MAFCU products and services as appropriate.







  • Performs other duties as assigned.




Performance Measurements:







  • To protect the credit union assets and records, as well as the privacy of member information by following all established security procedures and guidelines.







  • To maintain accurate and complete records of all collection recovery and account maintenance activity.







  • Remains cognizant of and adheres to MAFCU policies, procedures, The Bank Secrecy Act, and Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA).




Knowledge and Skills:


Experience One year to three years of similar or related experience.



Education

  1. Two-year college degree, or
  2. Completion of a specialized certification or licensing, or
  3. Completion of specialized training courses conducted by vendors, or
  4. Job-specific skills acquired through an apprenticeship program.





Interpersonal Skills Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for the purpose of first-level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication.



Other Skills Job is located in a general office environment and is accomplished by using a personal computer, telephone, copier/scanner.
