Property Maintenance Inspector

The Village of Riverdale is now accepting applications for the following position vacancy:

Property Maintenance Inspector 

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
• 2+ yrs experience in Property Inspections/Maintenance, General Building Construction or similar field. 
• Basic computer/data entry skills required
• Must be able to work overtime when needed and attend local adjudication hearings 

SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED:

• ICC Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector Certification or ability to obtain certification within first 9 months of employment.
• Ability to read, interpret and explain Village codes and ordinances
• Ability to effectively communicate, orally and in writing
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, residents and elected officials
• Ability to exercise good judgment and make sound decisions
• Ability to communicate effectively with staff, managers, co-workers and residents. 
• Must be able to handle sensitive or stressful situations with tact and diplomacy.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Responds to and investigates allegations of violations of municipal and property maintenance codes. 
• Issues tickets for municipal ordinances violations relative to property maintenance inspections. 
• Removes (or assists with removing) trash/debris from areas after tickets are issued. 
• Prepares records and detailed reports pertaining to daily activities, enforcement actions and inspections. 
• Ensures all documentation regarding enforcement activities and inspections are legible and filed properly.
• Testifies in municipal court as required. 
• Accelerates issues to the Deputy Chief or Chief for assistance when needed. 
• Operates and maintains village inspectional service vehicle in a safe and responsible manner.
• Participates in training, relative to property maintenance inspections and complaint investigations of grass, weeds, shrubbery overgrowth issues and garbage procedures. 
• Performs other duties as assigned. 

This is a non-union position that starts at $18.90 per hour
