Job Description - Tax Analyst I, II, Sr, or Lead

Position Description

Performs research, analysis, evaluation and preparation of tax returns, schedules, journal entries and reports regarding taxes, such as income, sales & use, property, franchise and other taxes for which the Company is responsible.

Position-Related Responsibilities

  • Performs analysis of Company data relating to various types of taxes.
  • Performs analysis of applicable tax laws and other materials.
  • Supports Company's position to governmental tax agencies.
  • Participates in preparation of tax returns, supporting schedules, accounting journals, and reports for various Company taxes.
  • Reviews schedules & computations prepared by other departments that are included in the returns.
  • May participate in taxation activities of joint venture projects and activities involving other utilities, industries and outside legal, accounting & consulting firms.
  • Recommends improvements or modifications to tax accounting systems and procedures.
  • This position may provide services to affiliates of the Company subject to the UNS Energy Code of Conduct and the related Policies and Procedures.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
(Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.)
Level I
Description:

  • Assists more experienced analysts in tax research and analysis.
  • May have primary responsibility for small compliance projects and will assist more experienced analysts on large compliance projects.
  • Prepares less complex accounting journals and account reconciliations.
  • Performs other assignments as needed by Tax Services team.
  • May interface directly with taxing authorities during audits.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • AA degree in business with 18 units of accounting and 3 years of experience in tax analysis and accounting or equivalent combination of education and, experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Accounting with 24 units of accounting from an accredited institution

Level II
Description:

  • Performs tasks similar to Tax Analyst I but on more complex analysis, research or compliance projects.
  • May be primary department contact for non-income tax audits.
  • May direct work of Tax/ Sr. Tax Administrator or Tax Analyst I.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum qualifications of Level I and 5 years of experience in tax analysis and accounting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preferred qualifications of Level I and two years of experience in tax analysis and accounting.

Senior
Description:

  • Will have primary responsibility for complex tax research, analysis or compliance projects.
  • May have several projects or studies assigned at the same time and may assist other tax analysts in large projects.
  • Will direct and review the work prepared by others.
  • Will participate in teams representing the company to tax authorities, other utilities or others outside the Company.
  • May have supervisory responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Accounting with 24 units of accounting from an accredited institution and four years of experience in tax analysis or accounting or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Large firm public accounting experience and CPA status.

Lead
Description:

  • Will have primary responsibility for one or more core Tax functions including income tax accounting under ASC 740, income tax compliance, sales and use tax, and property tax.
  • Will act as project lead over tax research, accounting, tax planning, analysis, compliance projects of any size or complexity, and adoption of new tax laws.
  • May have several projects assigned at the same time and will direct and assist others on complex projects.
  • Can represent TEP when meeting with other companies or organizations, including tax authorities.
  • May act as primary contact on income tax audits conducted by IRS or state agencies.
  • Will supervise and assist in training of less experienced tax analysts.
  • Will provide technical leadership in specialized areas of taxation.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum qualifications of Senior and six years of experience in tax analysis or accounting, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Large firm public accounting experience, utility industry and CPA status.

Pay Rate: Salary determined based on candidates experience and qualifications.
