Job Description: PORTCO, Inc. is a non-stock, non-profit corporation recognized as a 501(c)(3) organization, located in Suffolk, Virginia. Founded in 1991, PORTCO serves as an Employment Service Organization dedicated to providing transitional, supported employment, and vocational services to individuals with disabilities who face challenges in securing and maintaining competitive employment independently. One of the job classifications available at PORTCO involves manual labor associated with daily cleaning floor tasks. Employees in this role work under immediate supervision and carry out various duties that require moderate physical strength, including the ability to lift up to 25 pounds. Typical responsibilities may include some or all of the following: dust mopping, sweeping, wet mopping, burnishing, carpet spotting and extraction, bonneting, vacuuming, and operating basic mechanical cleaning equipment, as well as stripping and waxing floors. Under general direction, clean and maintain all carpeted and hard surfaces throughout the facility and perform preventative maintenance on special floor equipment. Responsibilities: - Ensure timely completion and accuracy of all tasks. - Collaborate effectively and harmoniously with other employees. - Follow contract requirements, company policies, and all safety and health regulations. - Maintain public areas by dust mopping, sweeping, wet mopping, and spray-buffing floors; this includes the use of power equipment as needed. Responsibilities also involve vacuuming and spot cleaning rugs and carpets, stripping and waxing floors, and shampooing/steaming carpets. - Maintain punctual attendance. - Provide spot cleaning upon request from the building manager, inspector, or PORTCO Supervisor. - Occasionally assist with other janitorial duties as needed. Specific Responsibilities: - Gather the necessary cleaning supplies. - Identify the personal protective gear required for the assigned tasks. - Strip, wax, and buff floors according to the contract schedule. - Perform carpet extraction and cleaning as outlined in the contract schedule. - Ensure that floors maintain a clean appearance at all times. - Conduct spot cleaning on carpets within 24 hours of a request. - Maintain minimum contract standards consistently. Accountable For: - Ensure timely completion and accuracy of all tasks. - Collaborate effectively and harmoniously with other employees. - Comply with contract requirements, company policies, and all safety and health regulations. - Maintain cleanliness in public areas, including: - Dust mopping, sweeping, wet mopping, and spray-buffing floors (using power equipment). - Vacuuming and spot-cleaning rugs and carpets. - Stripping and waxing floors. - Shampooing and steaming carpets. - Maintain punctual attendance. Job Location: Work will be performed at Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania, Locust Grove, and Stafford, VA. The noise level in the work environment may range from low to high, dependent upon work site.
