Position Description:

Summary

Under general supervision, the Research Technologist I supports the daily operations of institutional core services, with a primary focus on the Flow Cytometry Core utilized by multiple biomedical research programs. Core duties include maintaining sterile lab environments and equipment, preparing critical reagents and buffers, assisting with light experimental procedures as needed, and ensuring safe practices

Primary Responsibilities

  • Operate, calibrate, and perform routine maintenance on specialized sterilization equipment to ensure consistent, safe and efficient functionality
  • Support multiple labs by sterilizing lab glassware, plasticware and instruments using institutional equipment
  • Handle and dispose of hazardous waste in accordance with safety protocols and maintain accurate records of disposal
  • Support daily operations of the Flow Cytometry Core to ensure uninterrupted service by preparing buffer solutions and other media
  • Assist in any health or safety emergencies
  • Read, understand, and implement various safety protocols to ensure safe operations throughout the floor
  • Record and compile accurate records
  • Assist with the evaluation, interpretation and assessment of experimental data and quality control of assays.
  • Participate in meetings with principal investigator and research staff and evaluate/interpret the validity of data as needed.
  • Monitor inventory and carry out assigned duties for ordering and maintaining supply of inventories.
  • Oversee daily operation in the absence of the supervisor or Principal Investigator.
  • Other duties as assigned to support research program needs

Knowledge - Skills - Abilities

Knowledge of biology, chemistry, mathematics, documentation, and records management. Data utilization, complex problem solving, critical thinking, resource management, and writing skills. Daily communication about operations are necessary





Preferred Schedule:




Full-time role with expectations for coverage during core business hours and flexibility required as necessary to accommodate business needs.

Minimum Required Experience: No experience required

Preferred Experience: Lab experience or exposure preferred
