Job Overview

The Assortment Planner plays a pivotal role in spearheading the development of the buying framework for a designated category. They craft by-store and channel assortment plans that seamlessly align with overarching strategic and financial objectives. Bringing a progressive, customer-centric approach to the table, they effectively balance sales and profit goals while ensuring optimal inventory productivity. This leadership role demands a keen understanding of market dynamics, a knack for trend analysis, and a commitment to driving excellence in assortment strategies.

What You Will Do

Overall:



  • Lead the development and execution of the buying framework for the designated category.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with top-line strategic and financial objectives.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis and assessments of pre-market, in-market, and post-market activities.
  • Own and drive the Private Brand line plans, considering historical performance and adoption rates.
  • Conduct style outs, ensuring alignment with customer preferences and market trends.
  • Oversee the allocation process, confirming store matrix and applying Min/Max at the Style level.
  • Provide leadership and vision to the Assortment Planning team, fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration.
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities


Pre-Market:



  • Develop by-store sales and turn plans aligned with annual financial targets.
  • Review receipt flow plan to support category needs, addressing variances with Financial Planning.
  • Define clustering strategy considering channel, tier/climate differences by category.
  • Build and maintain category C-1 in coordination with Divisional Merchandise Manager (DMM).
  • Assess current season performance and determine future season replenishment assortment.
  • Establish bottoms-up targets for key-item volume drivers, trends, and newness.
  • Adjust Private Brand line plans based on historical category performance.
  • Assess breadth, depth, and productivity of the assortment.
  • Finalize composition of 'shopping list' prior to market appointments.


In-Market:



  • Quantify Buyer's curated assortment by brand, style, channel, and store cluster.
  • Ensure alignment with cluster financial targets and assortment framework.
  • Identify duplication across styles and vendors during style out process.


Post-Market:



  • Conduct style outs in NuOrder or within the market cycle based on system capabilities.
  • Address key style out questions, including customer attributes, breadth across price bands, and tier differences.
  • Finalize necessary changes after style out and Buy Review; send orders for allocation.


Key Process Updates:

Pre-Market:



  • Senior Director, Assortment Planning to inspect each Assortment Wedge.
  • Discuss top goals, risk and upside assessment, clustering strategy, breadth and depth philosophy, and key door initiatives.


In-Market:



  • Assortment Director owns quantification.
  • If an Assortment Director cannot attend market, an Assortment associate is to attend in their place.


Post-Market:



  • Style outs to be conducted in NuOrder, including key questions related to customer attributes and tier differences.
  • Allocation process includes confirming the store matrix and applying Min/Max at the Style level.


Allocation:



  • Confirm store matrix as the first part of the allocation process.
  • Apply Min/Max at the Style level to ensure appropriate depth.
  • Send EDI allocations to vendors at least 30 days prior to In-DC dates.
  • Review receipt availability before releasing orders.

Strategic Planning: Experience in driving strategies and plans supporting a compelling core and curated assortment.

Collaboration and Coordination: Skill in partnering closely with General Business Managers (GBMs) and Digital Directors for coordination and alignment across digital strategy and families of business.

Who You Are



  • Candidates with a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply.
  • Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel. Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms. Requires close vision.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.
