As a member of the Accounting team within the Finance Department, this position manages the following processes:
* Accounting for transactions within the general ledger.
* Maintaining efficient and reliable loan accounting models and databases, providing reporting and analysis that clearly communicates actual and forecasted financial performance.
* Providing financial information to support team members to make sound business decisions.
* Preparing various financial statements supporting schedules on a quarterly basis for the External Reporting team, Internal Audit team, and external auditors.

Outcomes and Activities:

  • This position will work from home; occasional planned travel to an assigned Southfield, Michigan office location may be required. However, this position is permitted to work at a Southfield, Michigan office location if requested by the team member.
  • Journal Entries: Review monthly general ledger journal entries for accuracy by scheduled deadlines.Expectations include:
    • Ensuring that we maintain adequate supporting documentation for journal entries.
    • Researching, interpreting, and implementing the appropriate accounting policies and procedures for new products and services or changes to existing products and services.
  • Financial Statement Analytics: Review and/or prepare analytic explanations for general ledger account and financial statement line-item variances by scheduled deadlines. Expectations include:
    • Ensuring that explanations are clear, concise, and accurate.
    • Implementing modifications and enhancements as identified or directed.
  • General Ledger Account Reconciliations: Review monthly general ledger account reconciliations for accuracy by scheduled deadlines. Ensure that we maintain adequate supporting documentation for reconciling items.
  • Loan Accounting Models and Databases: Ensure that complex loan accounting models and databases operate efficiently and reliably. Expectations include:
    • Implementing modifications and enhancements as identified or directed.
    • Developing complex programming to extract and manage data.
    • Ensuring data quality and verifying functionality.
  • Internal Financial Reporting: Ensure that accurate monthly internal financial reports are prepared and distributed by scheduled deadlines. Expectations include implementing modifications and enhancements as identified or directed.
  • Internal Controls: Ensure that internal controls in areas of responsibility are designed and operated effectively. Expectations include:
    • Maintaining accurate written policies, written procedures, and flowcharts.
    • Completing quarterly self-assessments by scheduled deadlines.
  • Supporting Schedules: Ensure that accurate financial statement supporting schedules are prepared by scheduled deadlines.
  • Organizational Health: Actively monitor, maintain, and, as necessary, improve the controllable dimensions of organizational health (right people, right number, organizational design, clear expectations, training & development, performance management, measurement, incentive plans, right environment, tools).

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience researching accounting issues and interpreting U.S. GAAP.
  • Experience writing financial analytics for executive-level users.
  • Experience designing and implementing process improvements.
  • Proficiency with MS Excel.
  • Proficiency with MS Access.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting.
  • 5 years of related finance and accounting experience.
  • 2 years of supervisory, project management, or other leadership experience.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in accounting or finance.
  • Certified Public Accountant or equivalent (i.e., Chartered Accountant).
  • Experience managing a professional-level team.
  • Experience in the Financial Services industry.
  • Accounting experience from a large national or regional CPA firm.

Targeted Compensation: $125,000 - $150,000 base salary + an annual bonus plan.

This position is not currently open to individuals who require sponsorship now or in the future to work legally for Credit Acceptance, such as H-1b / H-4 or F-1 OPT visa holders.
