Working under moderate supervision, the Environmental Services Technician position has the primary responsibility of cleaning properties owned or leased by The Jackson Laboratory (JAX) to promote the health and safety of The Jackson Laboratory's visitors and its employees. This includes traditional custodial tasks (maintaining public spaces and bathrooms), and housekeeping activities as well (laundry, assistance in serving an on campus Conference Center). The shifts are primarily M-F 7am - 3:30 pm, with some seasonal mandatory weekend shifts.

Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions:

  • Sweep, mop (dry-wet), spot-clean and/or vacuum building floors.
  • Clean restrooms and re-stocking them with supplies.
  • Gather and empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers.
  • Move/lift furniture and equipment.
  • Handle bio-waste and/or recycling materials.
  • Clean ceiling vents, horizontal/vertical surfaces, glass/mirrors, etc.
  • Notify management of occurring deficiencies or needs for repairs, make minor equipment adjustments/repairs, maintain equipment, re-stock/maintain supply area, special projects, etc.
  • Housekeeping services: changing of bed linens, laundry, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Ability to understand written/verbal instructions and communicate effectively with others (to clearly and effectively exchange information)
  • Ability to understand and follow Federal, State, and JAX safety rules and regulations, including wearing personal protective equipment as task require (PPE).
  • Ability to lift 25lbs independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to review and briefly respond to email and enter electronic time within 1 month of hire
  • Successful completion of JAX Environmental Services Technician training program(Department Guidelines; Basics of Cleaning and Restroom Care within one year of hire(score of 75% or higher))
  • Self-motivated with the ability to organize time effectively, demonstrated ability to manage details and provide excellent client service skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills sufficient to permit incumbent to work effectively with a wide variety of people and personalities representing both internal clients and external suppliers. Must be able to present oneself in a positive manner through appearance, attitude and behavior

The Environmental Services Technician I position is currently scheduled for the day shift (M-F, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm) and available for seasonal mandatory weekend shifts to meet business requirements of the Facilities Department and The Jackson Laboratory.

May require work scheduled and unscheduled overtime (as needed)
May require occasional travel for reasons such as training or project support including work at the Ellsworth campus or other JAX proprerties in Bar Harbor
Other miscellaneous duties may be required to be performed based on needs of the day
