Medical Specialist

Appointment Type: Seasonal Full Time

Overview:

This is a non-supervisory position that will provide appropriate CME hours and on-mountain medical training. This position is responsible for maintaining National and Utah EMT records for ski patrol. The Medical Specialist reports directly to the Director of Patrol, Ski Patrol Manager, and Ski Patrol Supervisor. This position is part of a bargaining unit represented by the Solitude Ski Patrol Union.

Key requirements:
  • Must be employed as a Solitude Mountain Patroller
  • The ability to demonstrate expert medical and first aid skills
  • The ability to conduct medical/injury related rescues
  • The ability to teach and train patrollers in EMT level skills
  • BLS CPR Instructor
  • UT State Certified EMT trainer
  • Ability to attain NREMT Training Officer credential
  • Ski Patrol Level 1 or above


Duties:
  • Coordinate and oversee first aid and EMT training with patrol management and other specialist roles
  • Properly document all medical training
  • BLS CPR Trainer for Patrol Staff
  • Ability to identify trends along with patrol leadership for patroller remedial training
  • Train patrol in incident documentation
  • Prepare training updates and training in line with state and local EMS protocols
  • Coordinate training with patrol management and other specialist roles to create a seasonal training calendar
  • Maintain an inventory of all medical and first aid equipment
  • Able to order needed medical supplies in line with patrol budget
  • Research and recommend supplies in line with industry best practices
  • The ability and skills to properly repair medical equipment such as jiffy splints, flying arm splints, etc.
  • Properly mark Solitude equipment and ensure supplies are returned from hospital ERs
