Posting Summary
Dr. Tamara Taggart, Associate Professor in the Department of Urban-Global Public Health has an exciting opportunity for a postdoctoral associate. This is 1-year appointment, renewable for two additional years pending productivity, performance, and overall fit. The postdoctoral program enables associates to build a high caliber scholarly portfolio in social-structural determinants of health, intersectionality, and community-based participatory research through mentored scholarship and independent research opportunities.
The candidate will work directly with Dr. Taggart on her research project entitled, A community driven modeling approach for identifying community & policy-level interventions to address the impact of structural racism and discrimination on adolescent substance use and mental health. In this role, the associate will support mixed methods data collection and analysis (surveys, interviews, and community-based systems dynamics modeling), coordinate community engagement activities, manage relationships with community partners and stakeholders, as well as support budget management and administrative coordination across research sites. The associate will also have the opportunity to support community engaged research being conducted through the Rutgers Institute for Sexual and Gender Minority Health (RU- LGBTQ).
RU- LGBTQ is a developing interdisciplinary institute dedicated to advancing the health and wellbeing of sexual and gender minority populations through research, clinical practice, and policy initiatives. Building on Rutgers' established leadership in LGBTQ+ education and research, RU- LGBTQ bridges academic research with community-centered care through partnerships with clinical programs like the PROUD Gender Center of New Jersey. Guided by the principles of community-based participatory research, the institute brings together faculty across clinical care, social sciences, and public health to address health inequities in sexual and gender minority communities.

Minimum Education and Experience
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • PhD, ScD, MD or an equivalent doctoral degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, public health, social and behavioral sciences (e.g., sociology, psychology), or related fields with strong emphasis on quantitative methods or applied statistics)
  • Strong applied qualitative data analytic skills
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience conducting community-based participatory research
  • Advanced understanding of systems science approaches and ability to bridge quantitative and qualitative research methods
  • Experience translating complex research findings to diverse audiences and stakeholders
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including manuscript and oral presentation development
  • Knowledge of adolescent health, school-based interventions, and community resilience models
  • Experience with research coordination in academic settings, IRB protocols, and research regulatory requirements
  • Applicants in All But Degree status will be considered for interviewing.
