Job Summary

The Director - Income Tax and Tax Technology position is primarily responsible for the review of AUSA's tax provision and tax reporting process that is internally prepared, as well as SOX compliance. Additionally, the Director - Income Tax and Tax Technology is responsible for maintaining various models for cash flow; budget and forecasting; assisting with the review of AUSA's corporate and partnership income tax filings (Federal, State, and Local); M&A modeling, tax planning, and implementing tax savings strategies. The position reports to the VP for Income Tax.

This is a hybrid role with 3 days in the office (Bethpage) with occasional days in Long Island City and/or Manhattan.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Review the income tax provision analyses related to quarterly and annual income tax accounting requirements (under ASC 740 / FIN 18), including SOX and other internal controls, any relevant schedules (e.g., blended state tax rate) and related supporting documentation/worksheets;
  • Assists other team members and outside vendors to perform income tax calculations, original and amended tax returns, extensions, and estimates (Federal, State, and Local), including supporting workpapers;
  • Work with the greater tax team and the financial planning team to forecast cash taxes; to determine the income tax impact of potential, and actual, company initiatives; and to perform due diligence and tax impact review for mergers, acquisitions, dispositions or other corporate reorganization/restructuring (at the Federal, State, and Local levels);
  • Identify changes in tax laws (Federal, State, and Local), accounting methods, or any legislative or judicial activity on tax law, and communicate the impact of these changes on AUSA or the telecom industry;
  • Develop technology and/or AI approaches to drive efficiencies in the overall income tax provision and reporting process;
  • Research and keep updated of new and proposed law changes (Federal, State, and Local) and filing requirements specific to our industry and business;
  • Coordinate and/or assist on tax savings strategies, cost/benefit reviews for tax initiatives, and managing audits (Federal, State, and Local);
  • In connection with income tax audits, evaluates the merits of the tax positions presented by tax authorities and their proposed audit adjustments; and
  • Assists development of tax research and positions; clearly documents and communicates findings.
Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in accounting;
  • Certified public accountant preferred;
  • Masters in Taxation preferred;
  • Income tax provision experience in public accounting or large public company (10-12 years); and
  • JD and/or LLM welcome.

Required Knowledge & Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate technical tax information to both tax and non-tax personnel;
  • Proficient in income tax accounting (ASC 740);
  • Knowledge of accounting systems and processes;
  • Proficient with tax reporting software (e.g., OneSource preferred) as well as any related programs;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; organized and attentive to details; ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines;
  • Strong problem-solving skills; and
  • Working knowledge of internal controls.

Pay is competitive and based on a number of job-related factors, including skills and experience. The starting pay rate/range at time of hire for this position in the posted location is $141,372.00-$201,960.00/ year. The rate/range provided herein is the anticipated pay at the time of hire, and does not reflect future job opportunity.
