Position Objective:

The Machining Manager will: manage the day-to-day activities of personnel in the machining areas; responsible for all aspects of processing product through areas in req1,1ired quantities while minimizing process-related costs and maximizing quality; recommend and implement improvements in methods to achieve these goals; interface with OEM customers; support new product development activities, new process development activities, and research and develop activities as needed.

Responsibilities:



  • Identifies, evaluates, proposes and implements more efficient methodologies including capital improvements and new technology where appropriate in all areas of responsibilities.
  • Researches and stays current with applicable machining and lapping philosophies and technologies.
  • Reviews requirements and provides budgetary input for Machining.
  • Tracks and controls inventory and orders materials for Machining.
  • Manages Machining support and development for product development/OEM activities. Coordinates Machining activities with Production, Quality Control, Quality Assurance, Regulatory, and Engineering departments. Ensures that efforts are accomplished on schedule and within budget unless dynamic events justify alternate actions.
  • Interfaces with OEM customers to identify and implement machining processes and trouble shoot production issues. Includes development and fabrication of graphite substrates.
  • Schedules production for optimal use of area resources.
  • Requests and involves appropriate Engineering and Maintenance support to solve process and/or equipment issues.
  • Tracks, analyzes and improves process performance.
  • Oversees CNC programming and machine setups for new products or processes.
  • Coordinates development and release of new or modified procedures.
  • Generate leaflet grinding dressing files based on leaflet tuning LE's.
  • Carries out managerial responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; tracking absenteeism and maintaining time keeping; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving grievances.
  • Study and standardize procedures to improve efficiency of workers.
  • Provide requested information for various technical or marketing presentations.
  • Relate to other people beyond giving and receiving instructions: (a} can get along with co workers or peers without exhibiting behavioral extremes; (b) perform work activities requiring negotiating, instructing, supervising, persuading or speaking with others; and (c) respond appropriately to criticism from a supervisor
  • Manage time effectively; prioritize and make good business judgments and decisions in relationship to efficiency
  • Provided back-up support for the leaflet tuning process.

Qualifications:



  • 10 years experience working in a machine shop environment, required
  • 5 years experience in the medical device industry, preferred
  • 3 years supervisory experience, required
  • Engineering Degree, preferred
  • Solid experience in setting up CNC mills, lathes and grinders. Lapping experience is desired, but not required
  • Experienced in using MasterCam to generate CNC programs and SolidWorks for CAD modeling
  • Ability to program CMM and SmartScope desired, but not required
  • Demonstrated ability to generate manufacturing and inspection procedures
  • Excellent planning, management, and leadership skills
  • Green belt in 55 and Lean Manufacturing preferred
  • Ability to foster a motivated and success oriented company environment
  • Keep knowledge up to date regarding pertinent Manufacturing Systems and Processes; drawing standards; in house procedures, policies and specifications; cGMP; ISO 13485 and other applicable regulatory standards
  • Ability to read, analyze, interpret and follow written instructions
  • Required to read, write and speak English with good command of the language, follow verbal instructions and use simple math
  • Basic computer skills including at minimum, be adept in use of MS Office, internet, and electronic mail
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to perform job duties in a fast pace, quick changing entrepreneurial environment
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish faets, and draw valid conclusions
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record. Employees in this classification must maintain insurability during the term of employment
