The student HPA assistant serves as a Health Promotion Advocate (HPA) in the Emergency Department (ED) Population Health and Health Services (PH2S)/HealthNow program. This program focuses on population health, using a systematic approach to proactively address health needs. The student HPA assistant will assist screening ED patients for various program initiatives and work alongside full-time staff to complete assigned activities. Under the supervision of program staff/leadership, the student worker may perform a variety of clinical-support and administrative tasks to support the program. This position serves as an opportunity to learn and participate in clinical processes, public health, and social work in a real-world setting. Essential Functions 1. Screen potentially eligible patients for various health-related programs. 2. Refer patients to higher-level HPAs for additional linkage and interventions. Requirements 1. Currently enrolled student at the Ohio State University. 2. Prior experience in clinical/patient interaction or counseling or current enrollment in health field training program is preferred (e.g., social work, nursing, public health). 3. Ability to work with diverse populations in a respectful, collaborative manner. 4. Commit to working a minimum of 16 hours per week at assigned location. 5. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time throughout clinical and administrative sites. 6. Ability to work a variety of shifts with shift period ranging from 4-8 hours (8am-12a) Monday-Sunday as scheduled. |
