Job Summary

  • The VP Network Planning is responsible for Southwest Airlines' network planning, schedule creation and capacity planning.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the Network and Capacity planning functions of the Company
  • Ensure optimal network potential while operating within established budgetary and corporate guidelines
  • Oversee the "operational" scheduling functions of the Company, including the monitoring of network viability, productivity and implementation of Network strategies and changes
  • Ensure that all external and internal Customers receive timely, accurate, and sufficient information about Network Initiatives in order to coordinate the implementation of the initiatives
  • Oversee and execute the vision, purpose, objectives, and near-term strategy for network planning
  • Responsible for the vision, strategic direction, development, and performance of the Network Strategy and Airline Partnerships
  • Develop strong relationships with operational and commercial counterparts
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with our Airport Partners to ensure we have the supporting infrastructure in place to meet the objectives of the network
  • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders

  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning and resource allocation
  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications

  • Skilled in communication
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks with frequent interruptions
  • Ability to solve complex problems
  • Ability to identify problems and opportunities and lead others through organized approaches to solutions

Education
  • Required: High School Diploma or GED
Experience
  • Demonstrated experience leading multiple teams or functions through subordinate leaders
  • Advanced level Business Acumen in functional area with understanding of broad business impacts
  • Expansive and far-reaching knowledge in:
    • Network Planning
    • Project Management
    • Airline operations
    • Operational scheduling
Licensing/Certification

Physical Abilities
  • Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time
  • Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job
Other Qualifications
  • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in employee and Company related issues
  • Ability to work extended hours based on operational needs
