Continuation past the termlengthdiscussed willbebasedonuniversityneed,performance,and/oravailabilityoffunding.POSITION SPECIFICS Dr. Mathias Martins is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to join his research program within the Animal Diagnostic Laboratory and the Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences at Penn State. The laboratory focuses primarily on poultry viruses, with an emphasis on understanding viral pathogenesis, improving diagnostic assays, and developing effective vaccines. The successful candidate will conduct research in veterinary virology, utilizing a range of classical and molecular virology techniques. They will also lead and assist with animal studies involving poultry species. These studies will include experimental infections and vaccine trials. The postdoctoral researcher is expected to adhere to all biosafety, safety, and animal care protocols as required by Penn State and relevant regulatory agencies. Additional responsibilities include supporting surge diagnostic capacity during foreign animal disease investigations and outbreak responses; contributing to the development of new diagnostic tools to improve disease detection and surveillance; maintaining laboratory equipment; managing supplies; ensuring accurate recordkeeping; preparing scientific manuscripts; and mentoring students and junior laboratory personnel.
