Paid Time Off:

Eligible employees begin accruing PTO on their date of hire. PTO combines vacation and sick leave, starting at 15 days per year for full-time employees. UMC also follows Washington State Sick Leave guidelines, providing one hour of sick leave for every 40 hours worked.

Position Description

Starting Salary Range: $90,000 - $100,000; depending on experience

Location: Lynnwood, WA

Classification: Exempt

Position Overview:

Manages the project accounting team and their activities to include job set up, subcontract management, job billing, job cost substantiations, compliance, and other accounting functions.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Supervise and direct the operations of the Project Accounting group.
  2. Review Project Accounting group processes, make recommendations for process improvement, and work with team/manager to carry out effective process changes.
  3. Work with IT as needed on process updates and new report creation/modifications.
  4. Maintain up to date Project Accounting training manual/process documents.
  5. Maintain effective communication with Line of Business Managers, Project Managers, Project Engineers, Finance department, and Management.
  6. Review/approve new customers and run credit inquiries as needed.
  7. Review/approve subcontractor compliance and subcontractor payable runs.
  8. Review/approve new vendor/subcontractor qualifications. Escalate concerning vendors/subcontractors to Contracts and Risk Director for final review.
  9. Manage subcontractor tracking and maintain up to date reporting, including reporting of small, minority, or other diverse vendors/subcontractors.
  10. Manage GMP audits and act as point of contact with external auditors, customers, and internal stakeholders.
  11. Issue billings based on contract and costs to date or schedule of values.
  12. Review and confirm teams' completeness of billing items at month end.
  13. Review/interpret job cost information to incorporate all applicable costs.
  14. Submit invoices for approval of charges before issuance to the customer.
  15. Review/Create job cost substantiations for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to compliance.
  16. Process and maintain incoming/outgoing contract and subcontract documents; including compliance documents, billing requests, invoices, lien waivers, and correspondence.
  17. Review contracts and proposals to identify billing rates and allowable charges.
  18. Review job set up and maintenance of project phase codes and billing templates.
  19. Process and assemble contractually required administrative documents including certified payrolls, union affidavits, work recovery, etc.
  20. Process requests for insurance certificates and bonds.
  21. Review companywide aged accounts receivable.
  22. Make friendly collection inquiries, update notes in AR, reconcile billing discrepancies, and escalate collection issues to management.
  23. Assist in AR Cash Receipts Posting as needed.
  24. Manage tier releases required to obtain timely customer payment.
  25. Process and calculate stipulated billing rates for management review consistent with company policy and procedure.
  26. Assist with interim and annual financial audits.
  27. Regular attendance and promptness are considered part of each employee's essential job functions.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  1. Provide back-up support for other Project Accountants.
Position Requirements

Required Skills and Abilities:

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • Oversees Project Accounting staff members. Completes performance reviews.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • 3-5 years relevant billing, accounting and/or construction experience.
  • Three + years experience in a leadership role.

Required Licensing and Other Certifications:

  • Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
