The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Overiew:

Reporting to NBI s Vice President of Development, and exercising a high degree of strategic thinking, creativity, and independence, the Director of Development is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, securing, and stewarding gifts and pledges of $10,000-plus in support of key NBI needs and priorities,

To this end, s/he will manage a portfolio of major gift donors and prospects, organize high-end cultivation and stewardship events for donors and prospects, manage NBI s new resident-alumni program, create and manage a more robust grateful patient giving program, and lead NBI s efforts to create solicitation and stewardship collateral, both print and digital,

This position will be supported by RWJBH s corporate research, database, and annual giving teams,

The successful candidate will be a development professional with healthcare experience or equivalent who thrives in a team environment with a collaborative approach to philanthropy,

Responsibilities:

  • Independently manage an appropriately-sized portfolio of major gift prospects and donors through all phases of the giving cycle, from identification and qualification through cultivation, solicitation, gift negotiation, and stewardship
  • Work with colleagues at NBI and RWJBH to strategize, identify, cultivate, and solicit annual donors and major gift prospects and donors
  • Manage and track key portfolio metrics including solicitations, face-to-face meetings, and telephone calls
  • Conduct a minimum of 72 prospect and donor meetings annually, or 6 per month, in order to qualify, cultivate, and solicit prospects, to close major and principal gifts and pledges, and to steward donors who have previously made major and principal gifts and pledges to NBI
  • Annually complete a minimum of 20 major and principal gift-level asks or proposals
  • Manage all communications and follow-up, including the preparation of proposals that articulate the case for support and the writing of detailed contact reports on all prospects and donors in the portfolio
  • Organize a minimum of three cultivation and/or stewardship events for high-value prospects and donors
  • Attend other cultivation and fundraising events as appropriate for donor engagement
  • Initiate ongoing research to identify potential donors and implement strategies to secure new gifts and to renew and increase current gifts
  • In collaboration with the Vice President, manage and grow recently-established NBI s resident-alumni program, with a view to engaging former residents and fellows in the programs and services of the hospital, identifying new major gift prospects among former residents and fellows, and cultivating them for support
  • Manage and grow NBI s grateful patient program, working closely and collaboratively with physicians and others at the hospital in identifying, engaging, cultivating, and soliciting patients with major gift capacity
  • In collaboration with the Vice President, NBI s marketing and PR department, and the RWJBH corporate team, develop and manage print and digital collateral materials related to fundraising, contribute to ongoing communication efforts such as newsletters and social media posts, and contribute to organizational storytelling
  • Actively maintain a current body of knowledge regarding the mission, programs and services, needs, and priorities of NBI and RWJBH

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor s degree required, advanced degree preferred
  • 5 years advancement or equivalent experience, preferably in a healthcare setting
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Outstanding organization, interpersonal, and communication skills
