The Department of American Studies at the University of Virginia College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences is seeking applications for the position of Department Manager. This position plays a key role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the department and contributing to a thriving academic and research environment. Our faculty teach and publish in areas ranging from literary studies and history, to music, art and performance studies, media studies, environmental studies, and the social sciences. Our faculty includes people with 100% appointments in American Studies, as well as faculty jointly appointed with other Departments in the College. The Department Manager will oversee essential functions across the department, with primary responsibilities in administration, budget & finance, people operations, course scheduling, and academic & community engagement. Minimum Qualifications Experience developing and managing budgets and ability to produce, interpret, and share regular financial reporting from existing financial systems. Experience in a support capacity in an academic environment. Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, demanding and complex environment while remaining flexible and collegial. Preferred Computer Applications: Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Adaptive and SIS (Student Information System). Physical Demands: This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs. Salary Range: The anticipated hiring range is $63,000-$77,000, commensurate with education and experience. Position Type & Work Location: This is an exempt-level, benefited position. A minimum amount of hybrid work may be available dependent upon the needs of the department and the incumbent's performance.
