Locksmith Apprentice (Union) INTERNAL ONLY

The Locksmith Apprentice is a union position, and will assist in the installation, repair, and maintenance of all locking systems, keys, and access control hardware under the supervision of the Facilities Security Systems Supervisor. This role is designed to provide hands-on training and development to gain proficiency in locksmith skills and knowledge, with a pathway to becoming a certified locksmith.

* Assist/trains in installing, repairing, and maintaining mechanical and electronic locking systems, including master key systems and access control devices.
* Support key cutting, pinning, and assembly of lock cores.
* Learn to troubleshoot lock and access control hardware malfunctions and perform basic repairs.
* Under the oversight of the Facilities Security Systems Supervisor, maintain accurate records of work orders, keys issued, and security hardware inventory.
* Participates/ trains in preventive maintenance programs for all lock and key systems.
* Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work environment.
* Support/trains in emergency lockout situations and assist with campus security needs.
* Attend and actively participate in training and apprenticeship programs.
* Collaborate with Facilities, Campus Safety, and other departments as needed.
* Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisors.

Education:
Minimal Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Education:
* Associates degree in building trades
* Journey men cards in related trade

Experience:

Minimal Experience:
* Four (4) years of journeymen equivalent experience in a related field
* Documented record of taking courses and or training to stay current in skills
Preferred Experience:
* Five (5) years of experience with card access systems, Best Keys, and Russwin and Sargent Keys.
* Five (5) years or more of journeyman equivalent experience in related field

* Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand and power tools safely
* Poses fine hand-eye coordination skills to handle key cutting and pinning core assemblies.
* Willingness to learn and follow detailed instructions.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
* Ability to handle physically demanding tasks, including lifting and standing for long periods.
* Must willing to/ability to work evenings and/or weekends as needed
