A Brief Overview
As part of the Foundation Relations Team, this role will serve as a strategic partner to frontline fundraisers seeking new sources of financial support for enterprise priorities.

This position will work to continuously populate (through research, partnering with prospect development, engaging with gift officers, etc.) a portfolio of prospects with the goal of making warm handoffs to gift officers, enabling the achievement of fundraising and engagement goals.

This role is charged with making connections with decision makers at local and national organizations, researching organizations' philanthropic priorities, and effectively speaking to all of the ways in which organizations can partner with Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

What you will do

  • Maintain a dynamic portfolio of 200-250 suspects at a time, with the goal of qualifying and making successful handoff to gift officer or disqualifying.
  • Identification: Partner with Prospect Development to review organizations and Requests for Proposals for eligibility and alignment; conduct research based on funding needs and priorities to identify well-aligned funders.
  • Qualification: Conduct new or renewed outreach to foundation suspects and prospects. Determine outreach strategy, when to bring gift officers into the conversation, and whether a prospect should be assigned or disqualified. Influence fundraising by providing well-qualified prospects.
  • Enable Foundation Relations Gift Officers to focus on cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship by helping maintain streamlined portfolios of active donors and warm prospects; conducting outreach to lapsed or cold donors to reengage or move from portfolios.
  • Partner with Foundation Relations Gift Officers to support clinical and programmatic partners. This includes participating in internal meetings with CHOP stakeholders, including leadership, to better understand their funding needs and priorities. This also includes providing Gift Officers with strategic introduction/handoff to donors to ensure a smooth transition from qualification to cultivation.
  • Conduct a minimum of 60 face-to-face (in-person or virtual) qualification meetings yearly.
  • In partnership with the Executive Director and Director of Foundation Relations, identify and monitor trends in nonprofit funding to inform identification and qualification efforts. * Conduct research on assigned organizations to ensure outreach and meetings focus on well-aligned philanthropic priorities.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize workflows and streamline processes. Essential Functions
  • Assist the department on building and maintaining portfolios that enable achieving annual fundraising and engagement goals. At times this may require being available during flexible hours to capitalize on opportunities and meet deadlines.
  • Prepared to represent the Foundation and Enterprise in public donor-facing settings, with knowledge of strategic priorities and funding needs to enable productive conversations and provide follow-up information as needed.
  • Work with colleagues to consult and implement plans for prospect management and portfolio maintenance.
  • Manage constituent data in conjunction with the Gift Administration and Data Integrity teams to leverage reporting capabilities and inform fundraising strategy.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree - Required

Experience Qualifications

  • At least three (3) years of business development, healthcare, philanthropic and/or fundraising experience - Required
  • Previous grant writing experience - Preferred
  • Previous contracts experience - Preferred

  • Intermediate proficiency with office software (Microsoft Office)
