About this role

Join TechSource and the Advanced Sources and Detector (ASD) Project team to support the design, development, procurement, installation, and commissioning of a ~20 MeV linear induction accelerator, Scorpius, used in subcritical experiments at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS). This role focuses on R&D-driven electrical system development for advanced accelerator applications, working closely with multi-lab partners and specialized vendors.

The ideal candidate brings deep experience designing, prototyping, and maturing complex electrical systems in a research or experimental environment, rather than primarily facility or building electrical systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as Senior Electrical Engineer and technical team lead for accelerator electrical systems
  • Lead R&D electrical system development from concept through testing, integration, and deployment
  • Provide daily technical direction and mentorship to engineers supporting experimental systems
  • Translate physics and system requirements into robust electrical designs
  • Lead high-level design reviews, system testing, troubleshooting, and optimization
  • Ensure compliance with engineering procedures, quality requirements, and safety standards
  • Collaborate with national laboratories, vendors, and multidisciplinary technical teams

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with 10+ years of experience
(Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree strongly preferred)
  • Extensive experience developing complex, custom electrical systems for R&D or experimental applications
  • Strong background in electrical system design using AutoCAD Electrical (or similar tools)
  • Proven technical leadership and mentoring experience
  • Deep understanding of NEC, UL, and applicable industrial and laboratory safety standards
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with linear induction accelerators or other advanced pulsed-power systems
  • Prior work at NNSA-designated laboratories or comparable R&D institutions
  • Experience in high-voltage, high-radiation, or experimental test environments
  • Background in prototyping, system integration, and first-of-a-kind electrical designs
