About the Job

The ENACT Research Group is seeking a researcher to assist with studies that investigate the role of nutrition in cancer prevention and survivorship using technology. We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated researcher with a background in computer science to assist with diet interventions and observational studies. The employer retains the right to change or assign other duties to this position.

Focus of Job Responsibilities

Study Management - 25%

  • Conduct literature reviews to support hypothesis development, intervention design, or technology selection.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of Standard Operating Procedures for experiments.
  • Recruit and enroll participants in clinical trials according to established protocol, Good Clinical Practice, and University of Minnesota Policies.
  • Assist with study recruitment for ongoing studies.
  • Train and supervise research assistants on study procedures.

Data Collection and Management - 25%

  • Support deployment and troubleshooting of software tools, apps, or large language model (LLM)-integrated interventions created by the group.
  • Develop and refine IT systems (e.g., data pipelines, dashboards, study-specific applications) to streamline clinical trial operations.
  • Engage with participants throughout the study to support completion of study tasks, provide technical guidance on digital tools, and ensure adherence to protocol.
  • Assist with data entry and maintain study databases to ensure completeness.
  • Ensure study treatment fidelity across different study sites.
  • Assist with IRB protocol preparation and collaborate with research coordinators from other group.

Scientific Communication - 40%

  • Communicate research findings to internal and external audiences.
  • Assist with manuscript and grant preparation, including generating figures and results.

Training and Development - 5%

  • Participate in professional development opportunities.

Other Research Duties as Assigned - 5%

Flexible Work Profile
This position has been designated as eligible for Flexible Work Profile Two.
Flexible Work Profile Two, Regularly Remote - is expected to work in the office/lab at least 3 days per week. Typically working remotely 1-2 days per week. Your office/lab will be located at The Hormel Institute. Management retains the right to modify flexible work arrangement agreements on a temporary or permanent basis for any reason at any time.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science or a related field, or a combination of education and relevant work experience to equal at least four years.
  • Demonstrated experience working with researchers in nutrition studies.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Access to high-speed Internet.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Attentive to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in developing study protocols.

The Hormel Institute is an independent biomedical research institution within the University of Minnesota's Research and Innovation Office. Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $24.70 per hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience
