Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The Department of Accountancy and Business Law at the University of North Carolina Wilmington invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor beginning Fall 2026.

The primary responsibilities for this position include excellence in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in accounting, conducting scholarly activities that result in high-quality, peer-reviewed publications, and service to advance the mission of the department, school, university, and the academy. Instructional duties include teaching three classes per semester.

Accountancy and Business Law faculty members are also expected to engage with the professional community by participating in periodic department-sponsored events and activities related to recruitment and placement of accounting graduates. A research-active faculty should expect to maintain a five-course load per academic year
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • Ph.D. in Accounting or a related field. NOTE: Applicants with earned degrees will be given preference. ABD's will be considered; however, PHD must be conferred by August 1, 2026, to be eligible for employment.


    • ABD candidates with a Ph.D. conferred by August 1, 2026, can anticipate an initial appointment as Assistant Professor.
    • Selected candidates with a Ph.D. nearly completed (ABD, not conferred by August 1, 2026) can anticipate an initial appointment as Lecturer at a reduced salary for a one-year fixed-term appointment. Degree verification must be provided before the end of the one-year fixed-term contract, and the candidate will be appointed to the rank of assistant professor with commensurate compensation beginning July 1 of the following academic year.



Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Department of Accountancy and Business Law at UNCW is seeking an innovative and dynamic individual with a proven track record in teaching different accounting courses at the undergraduate and master's levels. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of accounting professionals by envisioning new programs, embracing a growth mindset, and demonstrating a deep understanding of the accounting profession.
Preference will be given to candidates with

  • Experience teaching courses in various aspects of accounting information systems and analytics, as well as core accounting courses
  • Relevant professional licenses and/or certifications (i.e., CPA, CMA, CISA, etc.)
  • Experience teaching at the collegiate level, preferably in both face-to-face and online environments
  • Relevant professional experience in industry or public accounting

Required Certifications or Licensure
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Department of Accountancy and Business Law offers a concentration in Accountancy in the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, a minor in Accountancy and Business Law, and the Master of Science in Accountancy degree. The Master of Science in Accountancy program enrolls an annual cohort of 40-60 students and achieves over 95% placement upon graduation. The Department also offers courses in Accounting and Business Law in the MBA program and is home to an active chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, an honor organization for financial information students and professionals.
