The Department of Dermatology at the University of Virginia is seeking candidates for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in the Lee Lab, led by Dr. Carolyn Lee, Associate Professor. A federally funded postdoctoral research fellowship is available starting August 2025 to study skin cancer biology. The Lee Lab aims to uncover key molecular and cellular mechanisms that drive premalignant disease evolution and metastasis in cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), a common and potentially aggressive form of skin cancer. Using SCC as a model for epithelial malignancies, which comprise over 90% of all human cancers, the lab seeks to identify unifying biological themes that may support the development of cross-cutting cancer therapies. Our lab offers a rich experimental environment that bridges basic science and translational research. We employ a wide range of techniques including in vitro and in vivo models, high-throughput sequencing, and bioinformatic analysis. The successful candidate will be expected to:

This position is offered as a 12-month appointment, with the possibility of renewal based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding. This role is designed as a training opportunity to prepare for a full-time academic or research career. Postdoctoral Research Associates work under the supervision of a senior scholar and focus on full-time research or scholarship, with the freedom to publish their findings. This is an Exempt level, benefited position.
