GENERAL SUMMARY: The Central Core Assistant is responsible for accurately compiling case carts and preparing equipment for surgical procedures. Maintains central core instrument inventory. Utilizes aseptic technique and safe handling and storage of sterile supplies. PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values. 2. *Accurately compiles case carts for surgical procedures; prepares surgical equipment as instructed. 3. Maintains confidentiality in matters relating to patient/family. 4. *Completes preference cards accurately; maintains central core instrument inventory. 5. Responds to requests accurately and in a timely manner. 6. *Follows aseptic techniques and safe handling procedures as identified by facility policies and procedures; attends inservice and educational seminars as scheduled. 7. *Delivers medications (drugs or biologicals) received in the surgical suite to the appropriate operating room via case cart or medication cart. 8. Performs other related duties as assigned. (Essential Job functions are marked with an asterisk "*". Attach Addendum for positions with slightly different roles or work-specific differences as needed. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Knowledge of distribution center methods and practices. 2. Knowledge of surgical equipment, instruments, and sterile technique. 3. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions. 4. Ability to perform basic mathematical functions. 5. Ability to practice proper body mechanics for personal safety. 6. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. 7. Ability to react and effectively perform work under stressful and emergency situations. 8. Skill in the preparation and operation of hospital equipment pertinent to assigned duties. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or equivalency required. OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS: None PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: (Physical Requirements are based on federal criteria and assigned by Human Resources upon review of the Principal Job Functions.) (DOT) - Characterized as medium work requiring exertion of 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or a greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. |
