The Manager, Hardware Engineering, R&D Technicians is a senior-level position that leads a team of technicians who provides front-line support for the design, development, implementation, and sustaining of technical products and systems and supports various projects, cross-functional project teams, and products across the organization. This position serves as the technical specialist in the application of advanced concepts, principles, and methods in the engineering laboratory with oversight from senior engineers, plus delegates tasks to technicians and reviews their work. The role requires superior analytical skills combined with the ability to apply analysis and expertise to complex programs, projects, and/or technology solutions. The role supports multiple major projects of high complexity within the hardware engineering department, with results directly impacting project/program completion and contributing to the company's direction. The role requires strong leadership skills for the management of direct reports of widely varying skill levels and personalities, and R&D lab management, both geographically distributed between multiple sites.

This position is based in Costa Mesa, CA.

Base Salary Range 100,000 - 130,000

The above reflects the pay range that QSC reasonably expects to pay for this role. This pay range also depends on various factors such as job duties and requirements, relevant experience and skills and geographic location. In addition to the base salary range, QSC offers a comprehensive package including but not limited to health benefits, 401K or Roth retirement plans and generous time off.

Responsibilities

    Ensure that the lab infrastructure setup is adequately managed and maintained.
  • Define and coordinate preventative maintenance across all lab equipment and auxiliary tools.
  • Source and maintain laboratory equipment, tools, and inventories of components.
  • Supervise the testing lab activities and test schedules related to new product development and sustaining engineering.
  • Develop metrics for the measurement of team's throughput; where necessary, develop processes & procedures to drive efficiencies in this matter.
  • Perform or direct testing and data collection based on the projects' needs. Interpret and summarize data and test results and generate reports as required to support engineering projects.
  • Establish processes and procedures for users of the lab environment to maximize the efficient turnover of infrastructure.
  • Provide counsel and technical recommendations to the team to ensure the progress of initiatives and ensure deliverables are met. Address and/or resolve obstacles and setbacks to maintain forward progress.
  • Ensure appropriate resource allocation based on project needs and complexity of tasks.
  • Recommend improvements from a procedural and execution perspectives. Establishes SOP's to guide management and deployment of improvement initiatives.
  • Oversee the execution by the team by prioritizing work, task assignments and tracking the progress of individual team members.
  • Define and communicate performance expectations; monitor, evaluate and optimize performance; coach and motivate the team to achieve success.
  • Ensures team is able to stretch and grow by providing positive feedback where warranted and encouraging their contribution.


Qualifications

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • 5+ years of technical leadership experience in developing, testing, and qualifying electronic circuits, products, and systems for commercial or professional markets.
  • Experience in managing the electrical laboratory, test equipment installation and maintenance, and safety requirements.
  • Ability for coordinating large number of simultaneous priorities, projects, complex problems, and strategic initiatives
  • Superior problem-solving skills: issue identification, problem structuring, analysis, and development of recommendations.
  • Effectively communicate with individuals at multiple levels of the organization, including manufacturing floor and executive management, as well as outside suppliers and CMs
  • Ability to work in an environment where process and standards are often not well defined and to develop and work to standards where standards do not exist
  • Ability to lead courageously, maintaining a strong position amidst opposition to resolve important issues, and ability to navigate through complexity
  • Business agility to manage complexity, change and uncertainty
  • Hands-on, energetic, and a "can do" attitude
  • Excellent communication skills - verbal, written and presentation
  • Results-driven, self-motivated and enthusiastic
