JOB SUMMARY We are seeking a talented and experienced Marketing Cloud Developer to join our Marketing Cloud team. This role is responsible for building, optimizing, and maintaining marketing automation solutions within Salesforce Marketing Cloud. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience with Marketing Cloud tools and technologies, including Journey Builder, Automation Studio, SQL, AMPScript, and Marketing Cloud Connect. The Marketing Cloud Developer will collaborate closely with marketing stakeholders, CRM teams, product management and analytics partners to create dynamic, data-driven campaigns and ensure seamless integration across systems. This is a technical role requiring a strong understanding of data modeling, marketing automation, and customer segmentation strategies. The position may be based in Charlottesville, Virginia or other approved jurisdictions within the U.S. or in London and reports to the Director, Product Management. It is eligible for hybrid work but will be primarily remote. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - Develop and deploy marketing campaigns using Salesforce Marketing Cloud tools including Journey Builder, Email Studio, Mobile Studio, and Automation Studio. - Write and optimize SQL queries for audience segmentation, data extensions, and reporting. - Utilize AMPScript and SSJS to personalize emails and create dynamic content blocks. - Build and schedule automations using Automation Studio to support triggered campaigns and batch data operations. - Monitor campaign performance and troubleshoot issues related to data quality, email deliverability, and automation failures. - Collaborate with marketing strategists and product management to define campaign requirements and translate them into technical solutions. - Ensure Marketing Cloud is configured optimally with proper use of Data Extensions, Contact Builder, and preference centers. - Manage and implement data integrations between Marketing Cloud and external systems (e.g., CRM platforms, APIs, SFTP). - Conduct QA testing on campaigns, data logic, and dynamic content prior to launch. - Maintain documentation of campaign logic, automation flows, and development processes for transparency and repeatability. - Stay current with Salesforce Marketing Cloud features and industry best practices in email marketing and customer engagement. QUALIFICATIONS - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or other related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and directly relevant work experience. - 3+ years of experience with Marketing Cloud - Salesforce Marketing Cloud Certification(s) (e.g., Marketing Cloud Email Specialist, Developer) preferred. - Familiarity with CAN-SPAM, GDPR, and general email marketing compliance principles.
