About the Department and/or College

Human Resources is dedicated to assisting all employees to successful outcomes and utilization of benefit and retirement programs. The benefits team provides support to all phases of the employment lifecycle, realizing the intricacies regarding enrollment options and stipulated timelines. Texas Tech University recognizes the value created by comprehensive benefits programs.

Major/Essential Functions

Everyday you will provide support and collaborate with other team members, management, and outside agencies to ensure successful utilization of all available benefits by:

  • meeting with employees to discuss benefit options
  • assisting employees with timely enrollment in university benefits
  • providing new hires with information and assisting with the enrollment process
  • keeping records of benefit information provided to employees - making sure records are updated
  • reviewing daily report for discrepancies and ensuring benefit changes are addressed as needed
  • performing data entry of information with internal and external agencies
  • assisting management with the benefit and wellness related activities

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in job related field plus one year responsible experience. Additional specific job related experience may substitute for required education on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

To be successful in the role, you will:

  • have the ability to function in a fast-paced environment and act with a sense of urgency
  • have excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide excellent customer service while remaining diplomatic
  • be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with various levels of the organization and individuals
  • have time management skills in order to meet multiple deadlines
  • be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite products
  • ideally have working knowledge of employer benefit and retirement plans, especially the State of Texas plans
The ability to communicate (speak and write) in Spanish is beneficial.
