THE POSITION

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) invites professionals with expertise in the natural gas or oil sector to connect with us. As the oil and gas industry evolves, the Bureau of Oil and Gas is at the forefront of navigating this ever-changing environment. We are seeking a dedicated Oil and Gas Inspector to become a part of our team, where your skills will play a crucial role in overseeing and ensuring compliance with natural gas and oil well activities. This role presents a unique opportunity to enhance your career within the Commonwealth while utilizing your technical skills to make a significant difference in the management of the state's natural resources. We welcome you to be part of our mission, where the balance between energy advancement and ecological preservation is paramount.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As the Oil and Gas Inspector, your primary responsibility is to oversee monitoring and compliance activities within a designated geographic area. This includes inspecting oil and gas wells at various stages such as drilling, production, modification, and plugging, covering both coal and non-coal regions, as well as conservation wells and gas storage facilities. On-site inspections are conducted to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations, using permits, maps, and well logs for reference. You will document your findings and take necessary follow-up actions to ensure ongoing compliance.

In addition to well inspections, you will perform maintenance checks on gas storage reservoirs, often collaborating with industry personnel to evaluate safety and structural integrity. This involves reviewing pressure records and the condition of both gas storage and non-storage wells. You will compile inspection results into reports for the operator and schedule follow-up inspections as needed. Your role also includes addressing complaints related to oil and gas operations, focusing on environmental impacts and site reclamation, while providing technical support to stakeholders and the community on related issues.
