I. JOB OVERVIEW


Job Description Summary:
The Graduate School of Education and Human Development is a premier school with exceptional faculty teaching across programs in International Education, Adult Education, Disability Studies, and Curriculum and Design, among others. The Department of Counseling and Human Development holds a strong clinical focus, utilizing the clinic as an opportunity to hone students' clinical skills before entering into internship. Additionally, The George Washington University's Community Counseling Services Center ( CCSC) provides low-cost counseling and referral services, clinical screenings, and outreach programming for the neighboring communities.

The CCSC is seeking a passionate and forward-thinking Senior Staff Clinician, Counselor Education-a unique opportunity to lead innovative mental health services while mentoring the next generation of counseling professionals. Rooted in an antiracist and anti-oppressive framework, the CCSC empowers clients through community outreach and advocacy, while offering a dynamic training environment where master's and doctoral-level students develop clinical expertise under the close supervision of dedicated faculty and licensed professionals.

Reporting to the Director of the CCSC, the Senior Staff Clinician, Counselor Education will cultivate a supportive, high-functioning environment where both student counselors can thrive and do their best work.

Core Responsibilities:

Counseling Services and Student Supervision:

  • Develops, facilitates, and evaluates counseling students and CCSC clinical program.
  • Efficiently supervises cohorts of student counselors throughout the year. Collaborates with faculty to ensure continuity in supervision and education of student counselors.
  • Employs and promotes antiracist/anti-oppressive praxis in clinic management and supervision.
  • Provides crisis management oversight and monitors CCSC services in regard to professional and ethical service provision.
  • Present on campus and during clinical hours.
  • Provides on-call availability during CCSC days of operation and during semester breaks when the CCSC is otherwise closed.
  • Maintains confidential client and student information in accordance with HIPAA and FERPA regulations.


CCSC Operations:

  • Assists the Director in guiding clinical staff in clinical decision making, policy and procedures, and provision of ethical care.
  • Collaborates with the Director to create and/or update policies, procedures, and training curricula.
  • Maintains updated CCSC Policies and Procedures Manual and CCSC forms.
  • Assists in marketing the CCSC to prospective clients and referral sources, and screens prospective clients.
  • Maintains and manages technology systems such as the electronic health records and the video-recording capacities of the CCSC, and ensures the confidentiality of all client records, recordings, and documents.

Performs other work-related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are reasonably related to the position.

This is an on-site role in Washington, DC. There are required evening hours on a regular basis and occasionally weekend schedules.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold an advanced degree in a mental health discipline (psychology, social work, or counseling), plus two (2) years of relevant professional experience. A license in Washington, D.C. is required or must be obtained within six months of hire.
Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
Must be licensed as an LPC by the Board of Professional Counseling for the District of Columbia or obtain licensure within six months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational abilities to handle day-to-day operations smoothly.

Hiring Range $64,483.58 - $106,415.52
