Position Overview The Cerner Lab Informaticist provides technical and functional expertise in support of laboratory information system (LIS) implementations and optimizations within the Cerner Millennium platform. Focused on VA and/or DoD healthcare environments, this role ensures seamless integration of lab workflows, supports issue resolution through ticket management, and serves as a key liaison across multidisciplinary teams to drive adoption, compliance, and clinical effectiveness. The ideal candidate The ideal candidate is a seasoned informatics professional with hands-on experience implementing and optimizing Cerner PathNet within federal healthcare settings such as the VA and DoD. They possess deep understanding of clinical laboratory workflows and regulatory requirements and are adept at troubleshooting complex technical issues related to HL7, device integration, and LIS interoperability. They are highly collaborative, able to work fluidly between clinicians, IT teams, and government stakeholders. They communicate clearly and confidently, especially in high-stakes or fast-paced environments. With a strong grasp of both the clinical and technical domains, this individual excels in stakeholder engagement, systems optimization, and change management. They are also proactive, solutions-oriented, and thrive in mission-driven environments, contributing to improved patient outcomes and operational excellence through smart technology integration. The position requires excellent communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to effectively translate technical concepts into actionable guidance. Candidates must be free of travel restrictions, and prior experience with VA Cerner implementations is strongly preferred. Type of Employment: Full Time Work Location/Travel: Significant Travel is expected, and applicants should be free from travel restrictions. Salary Range: $79,232 and $106,565 Compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, employment structure, and applicable contract labor category rates. Role Reports to: Managing Director of Clinical Services Direct Reports: This role has no direct reports. ****Please review the following prior to Applying: Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities * Must have DOD and/or VA experience with Cerner Lab implementation and a proven record of managing optimal end-user experiences. Possess in-depth knowledge of Cerner architecture, including MODEL build, PathNet (LIS), core modules, and the complete implementation lifecycle. * Lead or contribute to laboratory system deployments-covering configuration, validation, interface setup (e.g., HL7), and go-live execution. * Analyze and refine lab workflows, ensuring alignment with clinical needs and regulatory standards such as CLIA, CAP, HIPAA, and HITECH. * Conduct assessments to identify optimization opportunities and recommend system or workflow enhancements based on performance metrics and user feedback. * Troubleshoot and resolve functional and technical issues, manage support tickets, and document resolutions for future use. * Partner with integration teams to address interface and device connectivity challenges, especially around lab analyzers and EHR interoperability. * Act as a liaison between clinical, operational, and technical stakeholders to translate business needs into actionable EHR configurations. * Facilitate clear communication between lab end users, Cerner teams, and federal IT leadership to promote consensus and solution alignment. * Configure Cerner components in collaboration with solution owners to support clinical and operational objectives. * Design and enhance clinical workflows across modules to promote usability and efficiency. * Plan and execute testing activities-including unit, integration, and user acceptance testing * Deliver on-site support during go-live events and assist clinicians with system navigation and adoption. * Contribute to training initiatives, including the development and dissemination of materials and competency-based learning resources. * Create and validate dashboards, data extracts, and clinical decision support tools aligned with reporting and quality goals. * Maintain required credentials such as a PIV card and federal background clearance. * Willingness to travel for site discovery, implementation support, and sustainment phases across VA or DoD locations.
