Job Summary

The Accountant - Capital Assets position is a key part of the Business Services Division, which collaborates with key operational areas such as facilities planning and development, financial planning and budget, financial services, and internal audits for Maricopa County Community Colleges District (MCCCD). This division also assists purchasing, auxiliary services, and risk management, ensuring efficient operations, cost reduction, and overall organizational success.

The Accountant - Capital Assets opportunity maintains and accurately accounts for capital and fixed asset transactions, including buildings, equipment, land, and improvements across assigned campuses and departments. Additionally, this position will provide analytical and administrative support in compiling and managing capital project budgets, ensuring proper use of capital accounting codes and funding sources.

Essential Functions

35% - Monitors and approves expenditures from budgets and various capital asset projects.

30% - Advises campuses and other departments on recording accounting transactions and maintaining fiscal records; assists in related training for internal and external customers.

15% - Prepares and reviews budget and accounting journal vouchers and reports pertaining to capital projects and fixed assets.

10% - Prepares recommendations and provides various analytical accounting schedules, projections, reports, and materials for assigned campuses and departments.

10% - Assists in developing, evaluating, and recommending revisions to accounting and fiscal budget procedures and processes; other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in finance, accounting, auditing, or directly related field and two (2) years of experience that includes the application of GAAP theory and practice, experience with tax laws as they apply to accounting transactions and reporting, and use of computerized accounting systems.

OR

An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.

Desired Qualifications

A. Two (2) or more years of experience in capital asset accounting.

B. One (1) or more years of experience working in a higher-education environment.

C. Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Accounting.

D. Experience using Oracle Financial Management System (FMS).

E. Experience using Microsoft Excel.

Special Working Conditions

Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D driver's license is required; must meet minimum standards regarding driving: http://business.maricopa.edu/risk-management/motor-vehicle-usage/motor-vehicle-driving-requirements.

May be required to work at multiple sites or locations.

May be required to work evenings and weekends.

May be required to sit for a prolonged period of time, viewing a computer monitor.
