Job Summary

Ensures high quality education in the light of changes in medical practice and expectations of educating students. Performs the day-to-day administration of the clerkship and works directly with the Clerkship Director. Acts as a student advisor, advocate, and policy expert for the clerkship. Serves as a bridge between the medical school and the departments and between the USCSOMG and the regional affiliated sites. Works to assist with the department's education activities.

Essential Functions

  • Support students, faculty, and clerkship directors to assure that the clerkship programs (M2 electives, M3 clerkship and M3 electives, M4 electives/acting internships and required courses) are managed appropriately.

  • Responsible for scheduling required medical studentclerkshipandelectives, including management of all schedules (students and sites);directing medical student orientation and distributing all materials related to rotation schedules; ensuring programs and student experiences meet curriculum standards; managing student work hours and collaborating with off-site programs to implement processes to ensure compliance with policies.

  • Builds, maintains and monitors operational budget in regard to educational activities.

  • Acts as a resource for the medical students, including troubleshooting and resolution of issues.

  • Acts as a medical student program liaison with the Department of Graduate Medical Education Program, providing medical students with an important conduit for their continued education.

  • Organizes new courses in consultation with appropriate faculty and Assistant Dean of Clinical Clerkship education and the Assistant Dean of Longitudinal Clinical education, ensuring that courses meet requirements and provide a good learning experience for the medical students; arranges course logistics including preparing, proctoring and grading clerkship examinations. In addition, ensures course evaluations (by students and by faculty) are developed, prepared, conducted and analyzed.

  • Organizes and attends faculty retreats, faculty development sessions, and educational meetings and other functions pertinent to student education.

  • Under the supervision of the Clerkship Director will plan, organize, and implement training and development programs for medical students, not limited to needsassessments.

  • Serves as the first line of contact for M3 and M4 medical students and serves as a mentor and will address student concerns in order to advocate for optimal student learning by providing accurate, reliable and complete information to students regarding all aspects of the clerkship.

  • Assures that student evaluations are prepared by faculty and submitted in a timely matter.

  • Also, the first line of contact for outside sites for all questions regarding the medical clerkship program with the department and therefore will need to understand complex rules and regulations associated with the clerkship program, oversees the website and other program materials; provides direction to other staff involved with the clerkship programs. Ensures that the program operates in an environment where all medical students are treated fairly and in accordance with USCSOMG & GHS policies and procedures.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education - High school diploma or equivalent

  • Experience - Three (3) years administrative or office support

  • Understand the GME program and accurately and adequately interpret policy and practices to medical students. -Preferred

  • Understand requirements of the program and compliance with guidelines and requirements for the Liaison Committee for Medical Education. -Preferred
