TITLE: Assistant Shift Supervisor

POSITION OBJECTIVE:The Assistant Shift Supervisor in the Department is totally responsible for the full operation of all the lines and reports directly to the Department Manager. The Assistant Shift Supervisor is required to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this position in a timely & efficient manner to maintain product run rate and quality while maintaining a clean and safe work environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Requires strong and proven supervisory and shift management skills
  • Requires solid communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Must be able to read and write English
  • Requires a minimum of intermediate level computer skills
  • Requires the ability to perform all essential duties and responsibilities of all positions within the Department
  • Requires the ability to train, direct and coordinate all department/staff activities
  • Requires the ability to provide supervisory support for a minimum staff of eight
  • Requires the ability to read a ruler and perform simple arithmetic functions consistently and accurately, including but not limited to converting decimals to fractions
  • Requires the ability to know when to ask for assistance when a problem arises that will affect the department performance and product quality
  • Requires the ability to work varied shifts depending on organizational requirements and customer commitments
  • Requires the ability to solve practical equipment and/or product problems and be self-directed within the framework of the essential duties and responsibilities


  • Ensure consistent, dependable attendance and demonstrate a willingness to accommodate non-standard work hours as necessary.


  • Capable of effectively managing job-related stress and fostering productive workplace interactions.



JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Total supervision of shift activities and personnel
  • Performs & is knowledgeable in all duties and responsibilities of all positions within the Department
  • Develops and trains assigned personnel, assisting them with problems concerning "how to" perform specific tasks related to their job
  • Makes suggestions on improving work procedures in the department
  • Develops strong working relationships with all departments to develop training materials and receive feedback
  • Assists with performance review of assigned personnel
  • Identifies personnel performance issues to department manager for review and corrective action decisions
  • Assists Department Manager with the work plan, scheduling issues of product and personnel
  • Verifies duties & responsibilities of each member of their staff on the assigned shift
  • Communicates with the on-coming shift as to what is required on their shift
  • Performs equipment set-ups and changeovers effectively & efficiently
  • Understands and executes on all job card instructions
  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses minor and major problems with cutting equipment; Requests the assistance of Maintenance personnel when needed
  • Operates pallet jack and/or forklift truck (must be licensed) as trained, when required, and in a safe manner
  • Ensures quality assurance on all products being run through the equipment
  • Maintains accountability for productivity and scrap control on the assigned shift
  • Adheres to and complies with Company safety policies and procedures
  • Adheres to and complies with all Company quality control procedures
  • Adheres to and complies with all Company scrap control procedures
  • Adheres to and complies with all shift quality and production reporting
  • Keeps department neat & orderly, free from excess bags and other debris
  • Assists the management team in maintaining quality system effectiveness
  • Performs all other tasks and projects as assigned by the Department Manager and/or the Plant Manager



WORK ENVIRONMENT CONDITIONS SUBJECTED TO IN THIS POSITION:



  • The work environment described here is representative of those an employee would encounter on a daily basis while performing the job functions.
  • This position works a 10/12-hour shift. The schedule includes weekends and holidays.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to extreme heat and high noise levels. Working on open air secured floor may be required.
