Posting Summary |
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Student Assistant for the Child Health Institute of New Jersey at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Under the direction and supervision of the PI and Lab Manager, the Student Assistant will learn a wide array of applied techniques relevant to their field of study. The Student Assistants will be trained in improving their experimental design skills and their oral and written presentation skills. Multiple resources for career development to aid with these requirements will be provided by the PI.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Assists in performing experiments related to cell biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, and/or neuroscience.
- Assists in maintaining laboratory instrumentation such as centrifuges, electrophoresis, and confocal microscopes.
- Compiles and analyzes data with appropriate statistical analysis, conclusions, and future directions in support of further CHI research.
- Adhere to established performance standards and coordination of experimental approaches in support of CHI research.
- Keeps clear and detailed records of the analyses performed in accordance with laboratory guidelines, maintain data in shared and readily accessible locations, present data to the PI and other lab members.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program.
- Broad (college-level) knowledge in relevant biological sciences including biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology and/or neuroscience.

- Must have effective oral and written communication skills; and the ability to understand and communicate sufficiently perform the job duties.
- Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools.
- Researcher must have the ability to work collaboratively and independently.
- Must be highly motivated, self-driven, creative, and interactive.

- Interest in learning to perform molecular, cellular, and imaging experiments a plus.

Physical Demands:
- Must be able to work in a laboratory environment.
- Must be able to work with rodents.
- Some lifting may be required: laboratory items and/or boxes.
- Walking, standing, and sitting is required.

- Must pass employee health clearance, TB Test and required safety training.
- Must follow all safety precautions in laboratory, as required.
