DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Corrections Plant Mechanic, you will provide skilled work in the repair of high-pressure boilers and related steam and hot water equipment. In this position, you will be responsible for the maintenance of equipment related to steam and heating boilers, chilled water systems, cooling towers, and standby generators. This will include performing repair work and routine maintenance on all equipment to ensure it is functioning properly. You can expect to clean and maintain central air compressors located within the plant and boiler room. Another duty of this position is training inmates in the practices, methods, and procedures of plant mechanic work by demonstration and close supervision during work assignments. Because of this, you will be responsible for the care, custody, and control of inmates during these assignments. Additionally, you will complete assigned paperwork, documentation, and daily inventories.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM, with a 30-minute lunch. The schedule will be as follows: seven days on duty and two days off, then three days on duty and two days off.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $46,986.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience in performing skilled mechanical repair work involving heavy machines; and such training as may have been gained through graduation from high school; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that affords the applicant with the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
