Operating Room Scheduler

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The OR Scheduler is responsible for coordinating departmental communications through the scheduling of surgical procedures, relaying information to the appropriate personnel, and entering data into the department computer system.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.

2. *Prepares, maintains and updates the master schedule of surgical procedures; communicates changes to appropriate personnel.

3. *Answers all calls in a courteous and helpful manner; takes complete and accurate messages and relays to appropriate personnel.

4. *Greets department visitors in a courteous and helpful manner.

5. *Collaborates with other departments to coordinate exams and treatments, minimizing fragmentation and enhancing patient satisfaction.

6. *Enters patient data and appointment information into the computer system; maintains accurate patient logs.

7. *Maintains department computer reference files.

8. *Delivers medications (drugs or biologicals) received in the surgical suite to the appropriate operating room via case cart or medication cart.

9. Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.

2. Knowledge of medical terminology and abbreviations.

3. Ability to work in a demanding work environment related to frequent changes in patient and procedural needs.

4. Ability to respond promptly to emergent situations.

5. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

6. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with physician office personnel, coworkers, patients and scheduling personnel.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or equivalency required. Prior experience utilizing medical terminology desired.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

(Physical Requirements are based on federal criteria and assigned by Human Resources upon review of the Principal Job Functions.)
