Patient Accounts Team Lead

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Facilitates effective workflow and compliance with quality and quantity standards. Oversees the general activity of the Patient Financial Services (PFS) functions, consistent with standards, guidelines and regulations. Fulfills the role of Insurance Follow-up Specialist while assisting with planning, organizing, coordinating and implementing the day-to-day functions of the PFS Insurance follow-up team. The lead will review compliance and quality, assist with revision of policies/procedures and participate in improvement initiatives. Will also orient new employees, mentor staff, and work closely with patients, families, attorneys, outside agencies, third party payers and internal Bryan Health personnel to secure resolution of accounts while maintaining superior customer service.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.

2. *Participates in meetings, committees and lean projects as assigned.

3. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.

4. Performs service excellence initiatives such as: AIDET, Key Words, Managing Up, 10/5 Rule and Service Recovery when applicable.

5. *Develops and updates processes; answers process questions and provides information support to co-workers and other departments.

6. *Assists with monitoring unbilled accounts and key metrics to assure smooth flow of accounts through the billing/collection cycle.

7. *Works directly with staff to assure turnaround standards are meet.

8. *Prepares and monitors Medicare credit balance quarterly report.

9. *Responsible for updating, maintaining parameters and tables and troubleshooting on computer systems related to billing to assure an efficient and accurate billing process.

10. *Identifies inconsistencies in following procedures; identifies backlogs, problems and training issues; and intervenes and problem solves these situations while keeping Manager/Director informed.

11. *Provides assistance to staff to ensure customer needs are meet.

12. *Assists with orienting and training new staff members on department functions, policies and procedures and processes.

13. Responsible for keeping abreast of changes in the industry that will affect PFS functions and works with the Manager/Director to evaluate impacts or necessary changes.

14. Supports Manager in accomplishing departmental goals and objectives.

15. Responsible for the Insurance Follow up Specialist job duties as needed.

16. *Assists with productivity stats compilation and analysis.

17. *Delegates and directs workload/periodic assignments and monitors employee's progress to ensure timely completion; ensures effective employee use of time and other resources.

18. Assists with testing for Epic upgrades.

19. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.

2. Knowledge of hospital and patient billing, including UB/1500 insurance form billing requirements.

3. Knowledge of all third party payer reimbursement.

4. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

5. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel and medical staff.

6. Ability to problem solve and engage independent critical thinking skills.

7. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.

8. Ability to adhere to hospital and department procedures.

9. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.

10. Ability to encourage team development both technically and cooperatively.

11. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or equivalency required, associate degree in a related field preferred. Minimum of four (4) years patient billing experience required. Epic experience preferred. Previous team lead or informal leadership experience preferred.
