The Role

The Senior Director, Corporate Strategy provides insights to and advises the CEO and Senior Management Team on strategic challenges and opportunities for the organization. S/He provides thought leadership on the healthcare market and on how Quest Diagnostics can achieve its vision, goals and strategy. The position manages and directs analytics to address market, sub-market and business questions.

The position is based in Secaucus, NJ, and reports to the Executive Director, Corporate Strategy.


  • Research strategic questions for the Senior Management team and develop recommendations for market and competitive conditions
  • Understand and articulate market dynamics and drivers in our Market Growth model - outline key inputs into the model, manage update process, and summarize key insights
  • Identify, track, and communicate critical trends across markets, industries, and competitors that affect business segments - audience includes Senior Management team and other key internal business partners
  • Size the total and addressable market and identify and size sub-segments of the market
  • Conduct market and competitive analysis to assess opportunities including influencing overall industry behaviors
  • Interact with the senior management teams of strategic customers to develop relationships and manage joint streams of work
  • Develop relationships, negotiate, and work closely with potential alliance partners and / or market participants
  • Work directly with the CEO to develop agendas and content for Board of Directors meetings
  • Engage directly with the CEO to develop agendas and content for Senior Management Team quarterly Executive Weeks and monthly meetings - manage all elements of meetings
  • Work with business owners at all levels of the company to define and detail strategic initiatives
  • Understand Quest Diagnostics' core capabilities, identify and determine how to close gaps to necessary capabilities
  • Generate consensus and action within conflicted and under-informed situations or decisions
  • Oversee the development of the company's strategy through the Management System and Hoshin Kanri planning
  • Coordinate the three-year strategic planning process across multiple segments of the organization (Clinical Franchises, Commercial regions, Finance, etc.)
  • Take the lead on selected projects to drive early-stage implementation
  • Manage outside vendors and consultants
  • Embrace corporate citizenship, including contributing to the development, implementation, and oversight of corporate policies, strategies and programs
  • The role is intended to work with and facilitate business teams or cross-functional teams, including from external partners; teams would typically be Directors or above and 6-8 people
  • 7+ years consulting experience and/or 10+ years in corporate strategy
  • Experience with a leading management consulting firm strongly preferred
  • Require a bachelor's in economics, Business, Finance or other related field; MBA preferred
  • Conversant in US Healthcare system
  • Strong communication skills and ability to communicate complex ideas to a variety of audiences: written, oral and visual storytelling
  • Superior analytic and problem-solving ability; financial/business case modeling
  • Ability to lead from within, e.g. without being in a position of authority
  • Demonstrated intellectual curiosity
  • Strong relationship building skills
  • Adaptable and comfort with some level of ambiguity
