Job Description:

The Vice President of Labor Relations is a senior leadership position requiring both strategic vision and hands-on execution. The position primarily focuses on serving as the Company's chief negotiator for collective bargaining agreements while managing all aspects of union relationships. Key responsibilities include developing labor relations strategy, leading contract negotiations, providing guidance on complex labor matters, creating company-wide policies and facilitating implementation, managing grievances, and delivering training programs.

Duties/Responsibilities:

* Union Negotiations & Conflict Resolution: Expertly manage complex labor relations negotiations with multiple unions and resolve conflicts, balancing organizational goals with employee welfare. Serve as the lead negotiator on the Company's negotiating team and as spokesperson with all union employee groups. Develops bargaining strategy in conjunction with bargaining team; drafts proposed language to be included in negotiated agreements; prepares contracts for publication reflecting language agreed to by both parties; ensures that labor contracts comply with all applicable state, federal, and local laws and governing regulations.

* Program Management: Oversee the entire scope of the labor relations program, encompassing personal handling of grievances across multiple unions and supporting the labor relations team in their efforts to do the same, as well as engagement with the National Labor Relations Board, consultation regarding disciplinary actions, and facilitating dispute resolution.

* Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including union representatives and executive leadership, to develop comprehensive labor relations strategies.

* Organizational Consultation: Serve as a key consultant to the executive team on labor relations matters, guiding informed decision-making.

* Collaborative Strategist: Analyzes negotiation proposals to determine their impact and potential implementation problems; works closely with Human Resources, Benefits, and Finance staff to develop compensation plans and procedures, calculate cost of changes in salary rates or benefit programs proposed for negotiation, and develop and articulate costing approach as it relates to negotiation strategy.

* Grievance Resolution: Makes independent judgment calls, and recommendations to the management team as the circumstances dictate, regarding the disposition of grievances; works with operations managers and the Labor Relations team to respond to grievances; will be involved in preparation for and appearance at arbitration hearings as the client representative.

* Union Engagement & Interaction: Meets with representatives of recognized employee groups to discuss problems or issues not adequately covered by the current negotiated agreements.

* Future Planning: Actively participate in planning for the organization's workforce future, leveraging insights from labor relations to inform HR strategies.

Required Skills/Abilities:

* The ideal candidate should excel at both building collaborative relationships with union leaders and implementing strategic labor initiatives internally aligned with the Company's vision and purpose.

* Possess a diverse background in people management and excel in team leadership.

* A strong understanding of negotiation, interpretation, and application of collective bargaining agreements and the organizing and bargaining process with a business/employer context, with requisite underlying experience in managing the process from A to Z.

* An understanding of security operations and contracts management strongly preferred.

* Strong interpersonal, critical thinking, multi-tasking, and time management skills.

* Excellent written and oral communication skills.

* Effective communicator who understands the value of teamwork, thrives in a collaborative environment, and possesses business maturity, enthusiasm, and a positive work attitude.

* Comfortable in an ever-changing, fast paced, sometimes stressful kinetic and deadline-driven environment.

* Able to interact in a corporate environment and effectively communicate with all levels of management, employees, and union representatives.

* Can independently develop reports, spreadsheets, diagrams, charts, graphs, and other products that may be needed. (e.g. - MS Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, Salesforce)

Education and Experience:

* Preferred candidate has a Bachelors' degree, with graduate-level education a plus;

* 7+ years' experience supervising a team of direct reports and/or project management, and a similar level of experience in unionized environments with multiple bargaining units and a working knowledge of federal, state and local employment laws and regulations.

* Must have experience sitting first seat in labor negotiations.

* Time and travel flexibility depending on the needs of the Company.
