The basics of this position:

STLCC-Florissant Valley is seeking a full-time faculty member and department chair to lead our Engineering Technology Department. This position resides in the brand-new Advanced Manufacturing Center on the campus, a 100,000 square foot building dedicated to innovation and state-of-the-art teaching and technology. The position will serve as both the precision machining technology faculty member and the department chair. Other programs in the department include geospatial technology/remote aircraft pilot, biomedical electronics technology, computer aided design, electrical/electronic technology, HVAC technician, skilled trades, and welding. The department chair will work alongside the faculty, the dean, and the district director to ensure classes, schedules, and programs meet the needs of students and fulfill workforce needs. The chair will bring leadership, innovation, and enthusiasm to the programs under the department.

What you'll do:



  • Full-time Faculty duties and responsibilities normally include:
    * Formal course contact teaching hours.
    * Preparation and planning for instructing assigned classes in accordance with course objectives.
    * Preparing and correcting examinations and other student work assignments.
    * Scheduling student conferences to review individual student progress.
    * Assistance in student academic advisement.
    * Participation in departmental selection of course texts; instructional equipment; library books and non-print resource materials.
    * Participation in departmental development, evaluation and revision of course objectives and outlines, instructional strategies, and systems of evaluation of student learning.
    Other responsibilities or assignments of full-time instructional faculty may include:
    * Participation on other departmental, divisional, campus and college-wide
    * Appropriate assistance to part-time faculty.
    * Assistance in student recruitment, job placement or transfer placement.
    * Sponsorship of student activities, groups or clubs.
    * Attendance at faculty meetings and institutional ceremonies or meetings.
    * Participation in community activities. The College reserves the right to assign other normal professional responsibilities as may be appropriate.

    Department chair duties include but are not limited to
    * providing leadership in the department to ensure currency and relevance of programs.
    * coordinating review of curriculum.
    * Acting as a communication and coordination link to other instructional areas within the college.
    *Facilitating communication between the Division Dean or other administrators and the departmental faculty.
    *Assisting with advisory boards in fulfilling and improving programs as needed.
    *Planning and developing course schedules during the fall, spring, and summer terms for approval by the Division Dean or other administrator.
    *Creating teaching assignments and official workloads for all full-time and part-time faculty for approval by the Division Dean or other administrator


Education, experience, and other requirements:

* Bachelor's Degree with major in subject field and two (2) years of full-time college teaching experience, and one (1) year of related full-time work experience.
* Bachelor's Degree with major in subject field and four (4) years of full-time related work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous community college teaching experience
Previous department chair or program coordinator experience
