We're actively seeking a talented Manager, Divisional Accounting & Reporting to join our Enterprise Divisional Accounting and Reporting team in Newport Beach, CA.This role is hybrid. We believe in empowering our employees to get work done both in and out of the office.

As Manager of Divisional Accounting & Reporting, you'll drive Pacific Life's growth while advancing your career by overseeing the financial accounting function for the Institutional and Workforce Benefits Divisions. You'll lead the quarterly accounting close process, ensuring accuracy in GAAP and Statutory reporting through reconciliations, ledger reviews, disclosure preparation, and financial analysis. Additionally, you'll collaborate with FP&A teams on internal management reporting, spearhead major initiatives like product launches and finance transformation, and work closely with teams across reporting, valuation, investments, and technology

How you'll help move us forward:

• Oversee team of up to 4 individuals.Accountable for the performance and results of the team.

• Provide technical guidance to employees, colleagues and/or customers

• Adapt departmental plans and priorities to address resource and operational challenges

• Oversee the execution of daily, monthly, and quarterly accounting and reporting including review and approval of journal entries, reconciliations, and analysis of results to ensure completeness and accuracy of account balances

• Review of various financial reporting requirements, including quarterly and annual GAAP and statutory financial statements, compliance requests, and internal management requests

• Review of fluctuation analysis of quarterly results, including presentation of results to management on a quarterly basis and utilization of tools and technology to generate data visualizations and data driven insights

• Preparation and/or review of technical accounting transaction and policy memos

• Maintain and support an effective control environment to provide reliable financial reporting

• Execute initiatives for implementation of new products and enterprise transactions

• Support and lead projects pertaining to finance transformation initiatives including automation of existing manual processes, business process redesign and acceleration of the accounting close process.

The experience you bring:

• 8+ years of accounting experience
• 2+ years' experience leading and developing a team
• 4-year accounting degree or equivalent experience
• Solid understanding of financial statement risks and controls
• Strong technical, analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills
• Ability to meet and manage responsibilities under tight time frames
• Excellent communication skills both oral and written
• Ability to work independently

What makes you stand out:

• Expertise in technical accounting and research, ensuring compliance with GAAP and STAT reporting requirements

• Strong background in the insurance industry

• Public accounting experience a plus
• CPA certification preferred

• Experience with User Acceptance Testing (UAT), system implementation, and system integration for financial applications

• Proficiency in financial systems, including Oracle ERP, Oracle EPM, Appian, Essbase, Workiva (WDesk)

• Advanced expertise in financial statement analytics with a strong understanding of the structure, geography and components of line items to support accurate reporting and analysis

• Basic understanding of investments and derivatives accounting, with the ability to analyze financial instruments and their impact on financial statements

Base Pay Range:

The base pay range noted represents the company's good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications and geographic location. Also, most employees are eligible for additional incentive pay.
