PROGRAM DIRECTOR (Youth Division)

Chicago Police Department

Bureau of Detectives

Number of Positions: 1

(additional vacancies possible pending budget approval)

Starting Salary: $86,520

Under direction, functions as a mid-level manager, responsible for managing the operational and administrative functions of a social service, public health or public service programs of considerable size and scope, and performs related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

* Manages the strategic planning, policy development and implementation of youth deflection and diversion initiatives

* Develops youth deflection and diversion work objectives, quality standards, and performance measures, working with the Commander of the Youth Investigations Division to monitor productivity and adhere to established standards

* Directs the development and management of youth deflection and diversion program contracts, budgets, grants and administrative functions

* Serves as a liaison between other City departments, outside agencies, the general public and other City agencies regarding youth deflection and diversion

* Represents the department in meetings and special task force initiatives to address youth deflection and diversion goals and concerns

* Manages and directs special projects and initiatives related to youth deflection and diversion

* Acts as a liaison with various local, governmental, and community-based coalitions and agencies to enhance and promote youth deflection and diversion services and programs

* Oversees the development, duplication and marketing of materials used to promote youth deflection and diversion programs

* Identifies and researches specific problems and areas of opportunities and concerns and makes recommendations necessary to ensure program and operational efficiencies in youth deflection and diversion

* Responds to public inquiries and comments regarding youth deflection and diversion program concerns and complaints

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALFICATIONS

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in the Social Sciences, Business or Public Administration, Public Health or a directly related field, plus five years of experience in the planning, implementation or administration of social service, public health or public service programs, of which two years is in a management/supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience, provided that the minimum degree requirement is met.

NOTE: Candidates must pass a background investigation, drug screen and other pre-employment procedures as determined by the Chicago Police Department.

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

This position requires applicants to complete an interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position will be selected.

Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:



  • Experience with the planning, development, coordination and evaluation of programs
  • Possession of a Master's Degree in Social Sciences, Business, Public Administration, Public Health or a related field
  • Strong knowledge of social services programs and resources for youth
  • Strong knowledge of the needs, issues, and concerns of the youth community
  • Knowledge of the many geographical locations throughout the City
