Position Overview:
The UMD Department of Education in the College of Education and Human Service Professions occasionally needs instructors to teach courses that cannot be staffed by regular faculty. Openings of this kind occur for in-person student teaching supervision, as well as daytime and/or evening courses, which are taught predominantly on campus. These positions are temporary and primarily part-time.

This search will establish a pool of applicants for openings that may occur during May/Summer Session 2025 and the 2025-2026 academic year. Applicants will be selected from the pool as needed. Applications may not be acknowledged but will be reviewed when such openings occur. Instructors are appointed on a semester basis, depending on the teaching needs of the Department of Education. Part-time appointments do not carry benefits, and appointments may be renewable based on need, funding, and performance.

Responsibilities may include teaching courses in one or more of the following areas: children's literature, literacy (early childhood & elementary reading specialist),special education (early childhood, elementary, secondary),elementary education, early childhood education, secondary education, American Sign Language, Academic English Language Program, education administration, graduate programs, human diversity, technology, advising education students, supervising student teacher candidates, serving on committees, and other duties as assigned.

Required/Essential Qualifications:
Required academic qualifications to be eligible for the Instructor position are, 1) a commitment to working with diverse populations and fostering social justice, 2) a Master's degree from an accredited institution in education or field related to specific teaching assignment, and 3) a minimum of 3 years of K12 teaching experience.

Required academic qualifications to be eligible for the Assistant Professor position are, 1) a commitment to working with diverse populations and fostering social justice, 2) a Doctorate from an accredited institution in education or field related to specific teaching assignment, and 3) a minimum of 3 years of K12 teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred academic qualifications for the Instructor position are, 1) additional licensure/ endorsements appropriate to the field of study required to fill the position, and 2) experience teaching with technology.

Preferred academic qualifications for the Assistant Professor position are, 1) additional licensure/endorsements appropriate to the field of study required to fill the position, and 2) experience teaching with technology.

Pay Range: for Instructor is $47,919.38 - $63,893; depending on education/qualifications/experience.

Pay Range: for Assistant Professor is $55,691.25 - $74,255; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
