Senior Manufacturing Engineer

In this role you will provide technical support for the tooling, equipment, and processes used, not only for existing product lines but also new product lines slated for future expansion. In addition, you will also be responsible for facility related support such as utility changes and additions, building modifications, equipment moves, etcetera. You will be a member of the Manufacturing Engineering team and work directly with operations as well as utilize your knowledge and experience to solve complex problems while working with other team members in a collaborative work environment.

Your Key Responsibilities



  • Work directly with operations teams to ensure manufacturing process and equipment meets or exceeds production requirements.
  • Responsible for the timely resolution of manufacturing issues which impact safety, delivery and cost.
  • Responsible for production tooling design and implementation.
  • Responsible for machine and automated system design and implementation to support continuous improvement and new product or processes.
  • Support root cause corrective action and systemic problem elimination.
  • Provide continuous improvements to meet all customer requirements
  • Develop, lead, recommend, monitor and drive corrective and preventive actions to resolution



Required Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in engineering with 5+ years of related engineering experience OR Technical degree/certificate with 10+ years' related experience

  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems using creative and systemic problem-solving tools and techniques
  • Excellent engineering and communication skills to work with a broad range of applications, customers, suppliers and team members
  • Strong background in machine and tooling design
  • Flexibility to handle multiple projects of varying size, scope and complexity
  • Experience with the use of lean manufacturing tools and principles
  • Working knowledge of measurement systems, techniques and analysis, including basic GD&T understanding and tolerance stack-up calculations
  • Proactive team player with a desire to build effective working relationships
  • Working knowledge of quality tools and statistical techniques used in manufacturing (i.e. FMEA's, DRBFM's, process flow maps, SPC, control charts, process capability, MSA, Gauge R&R, Operational Method Sheets, work instructions, RCCA's, 8D's etc.)
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Desire to actively develop other team members through coaching and feedback



Position Summary: Perform a variety of engineering work in planning and developing products, tools, fixtures, equipment and industrial processes. Functional Contribution (Contribution Matrix): * Focuses on improving existing products or processes that impact technical area or local plant * Actions impact primary team or product line * Interacts with internal and external customers/suppliers * Works under general supervision of more experienced employees or manager * Ability to solve moderately complex problems, but may still require instruction and guidance on complex problems * Able to translate concepts into designs and actions * Technical work product is generally subject to review and approval by more experienced personnel * Instructs, directs, and checks the work of less experienced employees * Provides coaching and feedback to less experienced employees * Is a team member on a major project or several smaller projects * Prepares detailed specifications for work that is completed * May be responsible for the completion of a phase of a larger project * Eventually may lead projects with small budgets or limited duration * Identifies ways to reduce product, process, or project costs * Knows and applies the concepts, practices and procedures in a technical specialty area * Mastery of basic systematic/ creative problem solving tools/skills * Basic understanding of lean product development tools and methods * Has a thorough understanding of the business or function being supported Skills, Abilities and Mastery (Responsibility Matrix): Product & Process Development: * Interpret agency and market needs and define appropriate design specifications * Develop, execute, and evaluate project plans * Lead the use of lean product development methods within assigned projects * Use explicit knowledge effectively and turn new learning into explicit knowledge for others Product & Process Design and Testing: * Support design of new products and complex modifications to existing products and processes * Prepare test plans and procedures * Support agency certification activities for new products (UL, CE, CSA, VDE, etc.) * Train technicians on testing and other procedures * Follow all organization and department safety policies and procedures and identify improvements where necessary Quality Assurance: * Develop methods for and perform product, process, and system audits * Evaluate suppliers and new sources of products, materials, and components * Evaluate capacity and quality of suppliers, obtain quotes, and establish supplier contracts Technical Support: * Support product/process validation and resolution of customer problems * Perform field installations and evaluations Education, Experience and Certification Requirements: * Bachelor's degree or two-year degree and related experience, or equivalent experience (5-8 years)
