General Summary of Position MedStar St. Mary's Hospitalhas a full-time, day shift opportunity for a surgical scheduler. The Procedure Scheduler will schedule all elective surgical procedures for the practice, will function as a frontline point of contact for all physicians' offices and patients, and will exhibit excellent customer service and organizational skills. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Assists in coordinating patient care by reviewing the patient chart and procedure schedule to ensure appropriate clinical support is available. Identifies and forwards referrals to the AR Department within 2 days of the date of service. Interacts with practice employees, physicians, and others by obtaining and communicating essential data and assisting other team members to coordinate efficient patient flow through the practice. Provides patient education and pre/post operative procedure instructions by answering patient questions in order to properly educate and orient patients. Schedules procedures by entering all relevant patient information into the Practice Management System to ensure proper preparation of the medical record and billing information prior to the time of appointment or procedure. Minimum Qualifications Education High School Diploma or GED required. LPN or graduate of a Certified Medical Assistant program preferred. Experience Experience in a health care setting, including regular use of computerized scheduling systems required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of medical terminology, ICD 9-CM, and CPT coding. Knowledge of policies, procedures, and rules and regulations of insurance companies. Knowledge of cardiology and vascular terminology and procedures. Ability to operate a multi-line telephone system. Ability to type 40 words per minute. This position has a hiring range of $18.33 - $31.61
