EXPLORE Instructor

EXPLORE (https://education.uiowa.edu/ui-reach-project-explore) Exploration of Postsecondary Learning Options, Resources, and Employment- Come and EXPLORE post-high-school options like employment, trades training, community college, and university enrollment. We welcome students of all ability levels (ages 14-21) to join us on the UI campus for a journey toward self-advocacy and self-determination. While enrolled students develop an action plan based on their post-graduation interests. There is a 10-month option (monthly sessions) with a summer camp and a summer camp-only option (June 15-20).

Overview:



  • Position Type: Hourly (5 hours/month)

    • 1-hour virtual meeting with EXPLORE staff
    • 1-hour class preparation
    • 2 hours teaching
    • 1-hour for setup and cleanup


  • Duration: April 2025 - February 2026
  • Location: Chicago
  • Target Group: 14-21-year-old students with disabilities


Responsibilities:



  • Lead academic instruction
  • Provide individualized and small-group support
  • Support students during activities
  • Set personal standards for students
  • Implement University policies
  • Organize and distribute resources
  • Set up in-person activities
  • Facilitate small group exercises
  • Assist with program opening and closing
  • Manage check-in/check-out of participants
  • Conduct monthly evaluations
  • Interact with faculty, participants, and staff
  • Report to the Program Director
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Required Qualifications:



  • Ability to work assigned shifts
  • Experience or coursework in supporting students academically
  • Minimum of 2 years of college education
  • Team player with a positive attitude
  • Quick thinker in fast-paced situations
  • Patience, organization, and a desire to help others succeed
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check


Desired Qualifications:



  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities
  • Degree or pursuing a degree in education or related field
  • Preference for current or recent college students with experience working with youth with disabilities
  • CPR/AED/First Aid certified
  • Bloodborne Pathogen certified


Training Requirements:



  • Criminal background check upon hire


Rate of Pay:



  • $25 per hour
