Position Summary:

The Optical Metrologist supports new product development, continuation engineering, and quality assurance. This position is responsible for lens metrology of spheres, aspheres, prisms, etc. and may be asked to assist in building prototypes, creating lens prints, and other duties in support of new product development. Some of these roles will be conducted in a clean room environment.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Safe handling, cleaning, and assembly of optics.
  • Perform optical metrology on lenses and lens systems.
  • Analyze metrology data and create reports.
  • Maintain optical metrology equipment.
  • Understand and apply ISO standards for optics.
  • Understand and create lens prints.
  • Alignment of laser systems.
  • Alignment of lens systems.
  • Assist in assembly of prototypes.
  • Provide optics support to mechanical, electrical, QA engineers.


Education/Experience & Skills:



  • A minimum of a 2-year degree in Optics or Physics and 2 years' experience, or an equivalent of 5 years in a similar role required.
  • Must be proficient in optical metrology, including but not limited to, interferometry, surface profilometry, MTF measurements, focal length measurements, and transmission measurements.
  • Must have experience in lens alignment and assembly.
  • SolidWorks experience is a plus.


Working Conditions:



  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer using a keyboard and mouse performing repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to open file cabinets, reach with hands and arms, bend, and twist, lift and move files.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
  • Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. Security Mandates.
