Posting Summary
Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Staff Nurse (RN) for the Global Tuberculosis Institute within New Jersey Medical School.

The primary purpose of the Staff Nurse position is to provide patient care (neonate to maturity) based on the identified individualized needs of assigned patients and families within the clinical nursing role. The Staff Nurse will assess, screen, evaluate, educate, and provide care management/outcome management in accordance with professional nursing standards and patient needs. The role of the Staff Nurse also includes practice/office support.

Among the key duties of the position are the following:

  • Independently obtains health histories and provides assessments or screenings as indicated on selected patient population; triage to appropriate health care provider.
  • Provides independent/interdependent/dependent procedural care in accordance with Nursing scope of practice and provides complex nursing skills and clinical judgment as indicated.
  • Provides direct patient care or directs other health team members to ensure proper implementation of medical/nursing plan of care.
  • Plans and coordinates patient care within external clinical environments i.e. home care.
  • Utilizing knowledge of growth and development, assesses the physical, psychological, socio-cultural, social-economic and spiritual status of assigned patients in accordance with UH and ACC standards.
  • Implements and evaluates patient individualized medical plan of care based on assessment of chronological age, developmental level and desired outcome.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience

  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey.
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a BSN preferred.

  • BLS (CPR) is required. Candidates lacking current BLS (CPR) Certification must obtain certification prior to start date of employment.

  • Certification in area of Medical Surgical, OB/GYN, Diabetes, Adolescent/Pediatrics, or Operating Room Nursing preferred.

Physical Demands:

  • Position requires standing, walking 2/3 of the time, requires sitting 1/3 of the time, use of hands to finger, handle or feel over 2/3 of the time, reach with hands and arms, kneel, crouch, or crawl 1/3 of the time, talk or hear over 2/3 of the time.
  • Position requires lifting up to 2/3 of the time.
  • Position occasionally requires the ability to push wheeled carts/stretchers > 100 pounds up to 1/3 of the time.


Work Environment:

  • Moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic).
  • Exposure to blood-borne pathogens that requires use of personal protective equipment.
  • Anesthetic Gases used in Dental Department.
  • This requires special personal protective device.
